...And a Happy New Year
January 1, 2002
"10, 9..."
The last seconds of last year. A sense of excitement filled the air. In a few tenths of a single second, 2002 would be upon us. The night was still young. Plenty of time for worries next year, tonight we drink.

"8, 7..."
The excitement built. Louder and louder and louder were the voices piercing through my skull as I attempt to get the perfect picture--one that I will only have one shot at getting. The dining room, kitchen, and entire second floor were desolate--the party was officially in the living room now.

"6, 5..."
New Year's resolutions would begin to be broken or kept in just seconds. "Auld Lang Syne" would ring throughout the East Coast. Fireworks and lights flickering and wine, wine, wine would overflow in seconds. The snacks were running out.

"4, 3..."
I can say the excitement was getting to me, a smile crept across my face. Although it was depressing, as 2001 was a fairly good year for me, 2002 was coming quickly, and 2002 will be better. I'm sure of it.

"2, 1..."
The last second of 2001. It wasn't on par with what I felt in the last second of 1999, but hey, we are entering the last palindrome year until 2112. Oh, wait--the clock's winding down. [Snap] I took my picture.

"Happy New Year!"
And with that, the clock began to tick for 2002. 365 days from then, I would be in the same place again.
The night was a good one, filled with pizza rolls, partying, pyrotechnician-ning, pondering, Perfect Dark, Pure Party, plastered parents, and pitiful alliterations (get it? Because I used alliteration? Haha, it's funny!...never mind). Of course there was karaoke, of course there were left-over Christmas things to toy with, and of course a digital camera. It was a good night. I listened to the O-Rock 105.9 "Best 105.9 Songs of 2001" countdown, mostly to be disappointed. There were a few I agreed with, but a lot I didn't. That's how it goes, I guess. Then, as 2001 turned to 2002, another radio station I listened to, WJRR 101.1, became "RealRock 101.1." They play better music now, but it's weird not having a WJRR to back up an O-Rock. That's one of the things I'll miss most about 2001.
Of course, as the top ten list started at about 11:00 on December 31, I missed it, as I was down stairs partying. I taped it. But the tape only got up to number 2, and stopped. How annoying!
2002. It's here. And as the last guests we had at our house in the year 2001, and the first of 2002, left, I realized I was left alone once again...
