About Joe's Hole

The Stuffing and the Basting Done
November 28, 2002
Joe Hunter

I was going to put up part of my new play today, but I think I may have accidentally deleted the file. So I'm stuck with the average, run-of-the-mill Happy Thanksgiving update.

Such is life, I suppose.

But to make an entire update based on one short phrase ("Happy Thanksgiving") is somewhat proposterous, I think. So what do I write from here? A discourse on time travel? How about my views on politics, or religion, or the politics of religion? Or maybe I could suggest that we all take stock in nanotechnology and become millionaires within the next decade or so.

Decisions, decisions.

In seventeen minutes, "Alice's Restaurant" (the song, not the movie) will come on the radio like it does every Thanksgiving. And even though I don't particularly like it, I will listen to it like I do every year; I'll laugh sporadically throughout the twenty-something minutes it will last, and then the radio will go off and I won't think about "Alice's Restaurant" until next Thanksgiving, when the process will repeat.

However, in a family tradition, we will listen to Manheim Steamroller's Christmas in the Aire CD, my personal favorite Christmas (slash holidays, just to be on the politically correct side) CD out there. (Not that I own every Christmas/holidays CD ever created, of course.) I look forward to listening to this much more than "Alice's Restaurant," because it signifies the opening of the most wonderful time of the year.

I suppose that's all I've got to say. More than I originally had to say, even. So I'm going to go await the turkey and potatoes and stuffing and cheesecake and pumpkin pie that lie just ahead on the road of life. Happy Turkey Day, Americans!
