PROLOGUE
JC Chasez, closed the door behind him and picked up
his duffle bag. Looking out at the sunlit street,he heaved a sigh. It was time
to move on.
Pulling on his sunglasses, he trudged down the steps and looked left and right.
He had no idea where he should go. He had only been in San Marino for two weeks
and half the time had been spent in the house, with Marshall. He knew he could
go to San Diego where he had friends. Lance and Chris would be more than willing
to put him up for a few days but he didn't want to interrupt the couple. Chris
had only returned yesterday from his posting in Korea and the couple needed some
time together. Joey was out of the
question too. Kelly was a bitch when it came to Joey's friends. So then where?
JC looked back at the house.
'Anywhere but here,' he thought to himself as he turned to the right and began
walking.
The late Sunday morning was the perfect weather for shorts, beaters and bikinis.
Skaters and cyclists whizzed past JC, giving him the frequent lookover and an
occasional wolf whistle. He didn't mind. It had been a while since he let
himself appreciate the gazes of others. Marshall always seemed to have a problem
if he even so much as acknowledged such gazes with a look.
Spying a cafe, across the street, he made his way there. There was so much to
think about and he needed coffee to do so.
Five minutes later, he was seated in a corner booth with a notebook in front of
him and a pen in his hand. While waiting for a waitress or waiter, he began to
make a to-do list.
_______To Do_____________
1. Call Mom
2. Call Johnny
3. Call Lance and Joey
4. Find own place
5.
He paused at five for a few seconds and looked out the window. Did he want to?
Was it worth it?
"What can I get you, hon?"
JC looked up to see a young man with an order pad in his hand, smiling at him
with interest in the brunette's brown eyes. JC smiled back, noting the flirtatious wink and how close the waiter stood to JC. The invitation was blatant. But was he ready to try?
Oh what the hell! He was too young to give up on love. He was not going to let
Marshall Mathers put him off love.
"I'll just have coffee," he said and looked back down at the notepad, picking up
his pen and effectively dismissing the waiter.
5. Fall in love...for the last time.
