Left
is a shot of the famed castle from the neighborhood below (well, in our
family it's famed!) Right is the interior courtyard. See the
tables and chairs on the porch, there. A clear indicator this is a
popular beer garden in fine weather.
That's us, in the lower
left! This wall is found in the "Great Hall."
Apparently these are addresses, just using symbols rather than street
number. So
much for our fantasies of some ancient and obscure Swiss knighthood,
folks. At least some of these "addresses"
above make a reference to the family's hereditary occupation, as in the
Schneiders who proceed us in the line-up. A schneider is a tailor -
hence the scissors. Incidentally, our German friends agree that
our surname means "jokester." I suspect that's something
most of us in this family can identify with!
Another note of interest is that we also found a
tiny village in southern edges of the Black Forest called "Scherzingen."
This is especially striking when you know that the family clock heirloom
currently in my dad's possession originates in the Black Forest.
Remember: Just click on any of these photos to see a larger version -especially the third one. Just be aware they can take a bit of time to download, so be
patient.
