Seaport Village

This is the area by the San Diego Bay.  Across the bay is Coronado island (technically a peninsula).  There are shops, restaurants, a cruise ship dock and many historical ships.  There is a memorial to the USS San Diego, and those that fought on her, as well as the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier that's being turned into a museum (opening this summer).
