Dachshund Craft Ideas
Fluffy Pet Cushion
MATERIALS:
1 Yard of cheap durable fabric.
1 or 2 bags of cotton stuffing.
1 Bottle of fabric glue, needed only if you do not have a sewing machine.
First go to a local fabric store and pick up a yard of cheap durable fabric.  Wal-Mart's dollar rack is excellent for this.  Also, get a bag or two, depending on how fluffy you want the cushion to be, of stuffing.  If you have a sewning machine GREAT, if not just pick up some good fabric glue. Fold the fabric in half with the inside out.  Then glue/sew around two of the edges.  If using glue give about an hour to dry.  The turn the bag cushion right side out and start to stuff.  When completely stuffed, glue/sew last side closed.  Now you have a huge fluffy dog cushion for only about $10.  Compare that to the $30 you would spend in a pet store!!
AWESOME Pet Bed
MATERIALS:
1 old table top with skirt.
1 jigsaw
Sand paper or electric sander
Wood stain/finish
Cushion from previous craft.
First pick up a cheap used wood table from a flea market, garage sale, second hand store, ect., Goodwill has a great selection.  Make sure that the table has a skirt.  I prefer the ordimental ones.  Turn the table upside down and take the legs off.  Then, using the jigsaw, cut an eclipes in the skirt, for your pet to craw into bed through.  Make sure to round off all the sharp point with the jigsaw, so your pet does not hurt itself.  Now sand the entire bed.  Then stain to your liking.  Last, place the cushion in the bed.  Now you have a beautiful realitively cheap pet bed.  Enjoy!
Fleece Tug-O-War Toy
MATERIALS:
1/2 Yard by 1 foot piece of fleece material
1 pair of scissors
This toy is especially good for puppies because it is so soft.  Schatzie loves playing with the one I made him. Go to the fabric store and get a cheep piece of fleece fabric, around 1/2 yard by one foot.  Again, the dollar rack at Wal-Mart is awesome.  Take your piece of fabric and cut it long ways in to strips about an inch long.  Hold the strips evenly together and tie a knot at one end, leaving about four incheas of fridge before the knot.  Then, take the strips and seperate them into groups of four.  Braid the groups and tye a knot at the end, leaving about four inches of fringe past the knot.  Now you are done.  You have a great soft tug-o-war toy for your dog.
Dirt Cheap Dachshund Sweater
MATERIALS:
1 old Pair of sweat pants
1 pair of scissors
First, measure your doxie from the base of his neck to the middle of his back.  Then take the leg of an old pair of sweat pants and cut them to the same length.  Cut a slit in the ribbed end in order to make a collar for the sweater.  Place it around your dog, and mark places for his front legs.  Now cut out holes for his legs to fit through.  Makes these holes about three inches for comfort.  Trim as you wish or leave as is.  I find it looks very 80s as is!  Now place your doxie in his brand new sweater. *For minis and puppies try a sweat shirt sleeve.
If you have any ideas for pet crafts please e-mail them to Schatzie.  He will try them out of place them on his site!  Thank you!
