The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
The film starts with a narration of how rings were given to the rulers of the three peoples of Middle Earth. Three to the Elves, Five to the Elves and nine to the race of Men. Yet they were decieved as the ruler of Mordor, The dark armor clad Sauron created a ring that contained all his rage, cruelty, and will to dominate, the One Ring To Rule Them All. An alliance between elves and men join forces to fight the forces of Sauron's massive army. As the battle went on and it seemed that the alliance would win, Sauron and the ring joined the fray and started decimating the army. To the point where he felled the human king. His son Isildur took his father's shattered sword and cut the ring from The dark lord's hand, resulting in his seeming destruction. He took the ring as a trophy, but the ring brought about his defeat as he was felled himself. The ring disappeared into a river for two thousand years. Until a riverfolk named called Gullom picked up the ring and went into seclusion for 500 years as it drove him mad with greed and envy for the ring. Until a shadow started to rise in the east, The ring disappeared from him gasp, but was picked up by a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins.
Sixty years later, a wizard named Gandalf the Grey arrives into the shire, via horse drawn cart. He's there for a celebration of Bilbo's birthday, and encounters Frodo Baggins on the way and the two just shoot the breeze on how the wizard's experiences with Bilbo and what not. Frodo goes on hos merry way and he arrives at Bilbo's door and the two shoot the breeze more or less how Bilbo wants to leave the town to finish his book. Later on, the town celebrates Bilbo's "eleventy-first" birthday, in which fireworks are fired, in particular, one set off by Merrigan Brandybuck and Perrigan Took, which gets them dish duty under the eye of Gandalf. Bilbo is asked to stand up for a speech, and as he does, he realizes he has been in the town too long, puts on the ring, and disappears. He ends up heading back to his house, takes off the ring, to be met by Gandalf who confronts him about the ring which has an influence on Bilbo as he does not want to give it up. During the conversation, Gandalf hears the word "precious" and it strikes a nerve. Gandalf tries to convince him to give up the ring, before he goes. And he reluctantly gives it up. As he leaves, he tells Gandalf he will leave everything to Frodo and he will live happily ever after and leaves. Meanwhile in the land of Mordor, a band of black riders on horse back exit a dark tower to the words of "Baggins...the shire" echoeing in the tower. In the shire, Frodo, enters Bilbo's house looking for him, to find Gandalf sitting by the fire. Looking shaken he tells Frodo to keep the ring safe and secret as he has to go find some information, and thus he exits by horse back to the white city of Gondor. There he looks up info about Isildur as he reads that the former ruler felt the ring was precious to him. A black rider comes up to a hobbit, looking for the baggins and the shire, told that Baggins are in Hobbiton. A day passes as Frodo comes back to his new house after a night of drink. He is confronted by Gandalf asking if the ring is safe. Which it is, and throws the ring into the fireplace. As Frodo takes the ring, a hidden inscription is uncovered. "one ring to rule them all". Gandalf and Frodo decide that the ring can not stay in the Shire. Gandalf refuses to take the ring for he fears his powers will be corrupted. So Frodo feels he has no choice, but to take it himself. He is told to keep off the roads and leave the name Baggins behind. Gandalf says he will meet Frodo at the Prancing Pony in the town of Bree. During the preparation, a russle is heard outside a window, and Gandalf reaches outside and grabs one Samwise Gamgee, Frodo's husky friend and gardener. Sam says heard something about the end of the world if the ring falls into the wrong hands, so Gandalf says he had a job for him. Thus Sam and Frodo start the trek to Bree. On the way, Sam realizes at one point that he is about to go the furthest from The Shire he has ever been, but sucks it up and keeps forward. Meanwhile Gandalf makes his way to the tower or Orthanac, in Eisengard where his confidant and mentor Saraumon the White resides. Gandalf explains to Sauramon the gravity of the situation, but it seems too little too late, as Sauramon makes a declaration that he is inline with the dark lord Sauron. Gandlaf is blocked from escaping, and has a battle, each one using their powers, until Saraumon gets a grasp on Gandlaf's staff and uses the powere of his and the other staff against Gandalf. Dissappointed that Gandlf woulkd not ally himself with him, he shows the grey the way of pain and sends him flying through the top of the tower.
In a cornfield, Sam thinks he has lost Frodo and looks franitcally for him for a bit, but he is less than a row away. Sam tells him that he was charged not to lose him. Then they are bumped into by Perrigan "Pippin" and Merrigan "Merry" as they are stealing some produce from the farmer's crop and during a getaway, fall down a slope into a road. Realizing the location Frodo tells them to get off of it, thus a Rider comes along, and almost sees them. Frodo, seemingly in a trance, tries to put on the ring, but Sam stops him, and throws a rock, diverting the rider's attention. Later in the evening, Merry and Pippin ask what it is that the rider is looking for. Frodo tells them he and Sam have to go to Bree. So Merry suggests the Bucleberry Ferry, and they run for it, chased by riders all the way. Three hobbits make the ferry, but Frodo is behind, running from one. As it takes off, he has to jump for it. to the rider's dismay and screeech. He turns around and heads for the road, with the other black riders. The hobbits make a 26 mile journey to said town.
Outside the walls of Bree, the four hobbits seek to enter from an elderly watchman. And are allowed into a rether mideval town until they come to the Prancing Pony. There Frodo, using the name Anderhill, asks the inn keeper if Gandalf the grey has showed up yet. No, not for six months. Gandalf is atop the tower and sees that an army of orcs, under the guidance of Sauramon, are destroying the tree laiden country side, using the trees to fuel an underground armory, as well as creating a man orc hybrid dubbed the Urak Hai. At the Pony, the four hobbits drink away, waiting for Gandalf. At one point, Frodo asks about a shadowy man watching them in a corner. He is called Strider, a ranger, who watches the hobbits. Pippin tells the bartender he knows aBaggins, and points out Frodo, who rushes to him to stop him, but slips. As he falls to the ground, the ring, which he had in his hand, flies up and lands on one of his fingers. He vanishes, but in his pov, he's in some sort of shadow world, where the eye of Sauron is fixed on him. Thus the black riders get a fix on him and make there way towards Bree. He takes off the ring and he is grabbed by Strider and taken to a room. There Strider tells him he needed to be more cautious about the ring as he knows what hunts him. Thinking their friend is harmed, The other hobbits burst open the door, to be met with Strider drawing his sword. But their pseudo conflict is resolved. As the hobbits sleep, the riders make their way to bree, destroying the gate and the keeper, force their way into the Pony and the hobbits room. In their room, the four seem to be asleep, as four riders stab into the beds. As the bedding is removed, it turns out that the beds were stuffed with pillows. Their screeching wakes the hobbits, under the guard of Strider in a room across the way. Then he tells the four about the riders, known as Ringwraiths who were once the kings who were given the nine rings, but were soul enslaved. Their only mission is to find the one ring by any means.
The nect day, the group make their way through the fields of. Strider tells them they are on their way to Rivendell, the home of the elves. The only real quibble from Piipin and Merry is that they don't get to eat the traditional hobbit meals ie, many meals a day. A rest stop brings them to Weathertop, once a lookout. There Strider brandishes them all daggers to use in defense. He goes on to look out at another part of the hill. Night falls finding Frodo napping, but is awaken by the three hobbits eating by a roaring fire. Which he rushes to put out, but too late as the riders are seen making their way towards the high peak. They arm themselves as the wraiths apporach, but are hardly a match for the tall creatures who make their way to Frodo, who puts on the ring thinking he'll disappear from their sight. But turns out that in the spirit world, he sees the kings as ghostly appartitions. The ring is drawn to the leader's hand, but Frodo forces it away, resulting in him being stabbed in the right shoulder. As the wraith goes for one more blow, a figure leaps between them with a torch. It is Strider who fights off the wraiths, as Frodo painfully takes off the ring and reappears. After dispatching the last wraith with a torch thrown into his hood, he sees Frodo's wound, picks him up as he fears the wound from the Mordor blade will transform him into a wraith. As he's carries, Frodo calls out Gandalf's name. The wizard is still atop the tower, but a lonely bat flies to him, he catches him and send him on his way, wispering a message. So they pick up their pace, trying to get to Rivendell, but stop to find a weed that may slow the poison. It is here where Arwen, an female elf shows up to flirt with Strider. But realizing what happens, she volunteers to ride her horse to Rivendel, with Frodo, as she tells the ranger she is the fastest rider. So They go off, with Frodo's eyes turning cool blue, his flesh flustered and his breathing increasingly labored. As she rides, so the wraiths follow. She does what she can to reach the river bordering Rivendell, dodging through trees and what not. Until she crosses the river, daring the wraiths to come. As they make their way, she summons a powerful spell that brings the river to rise in almost a stampede, flooding the wraiths downstream. As this happens, Frodo's breathing becomes more labored and it seems he will pass into shadow.
In a haze, there is an image of an elf saying some sort of spell. As he does come out of it, Frodo finds that Gandalf is besides him. Gandalf tells him he didn't show becasue he was delayed. Turns out that Saraumon was about to kill him atop the tower, but the bat showed up again, signaling the arrival of a giant Eagle, which Gandalf jumps upon and flies from Eisengard, past a mountain range. Sam greets Frodo as he awakes. Frodo gets up and greets the other hobbits, and meets up with Bilbo, looking older than last seen. Below, the peoples of middle earth start arriving, men, elves, dwarves. Inside Gandalf talks to Elrond, king of Rivendell about how they should fight, but he says that his people are leaving towards the undying lands, and the race of men will die. But Gandalf says there is one who could unite them in battle, but he has chosen exile. Strider is seen reading a book, as Boromir, captain of gondor grasps The Shards of Isis, the sword that struck down Sauron, drops it and walks away. Strider picks it back up and sts it on its resting place. Thus Arwen enters the room and they talk, with her telling him that she chooses a mortal life out of her love for him.
Elrond calls forth a meeting of the peoples of middle earth in which Frodo presents the ring on a center table. Realizing that it is in fact a myth no longer, Boromir asks to take the ring to Gondor and use it aginast the forces of Sauron. To which Srtider says it can't be as it would doom the user. It is here that you find out that Strider is actually Arargorn, descendent of Isildor. An elven prince, Legolas, says that the ring must be destroyed, to which end a dwarf, Gimli, tries to strike the ring down with an axe, but only ends up destroying his weapon. It is then decided that the ring must be taken to Mount Doom and destroyed. But no one can decide who will take it there, ensuing in an group argument, with Frodo seeing the ring awash in flame. Fearing that no one can agree, he says he will take the ring to the mount. Gandalf, offers to help him as long as he carries the ring. Aragorn swears his life or death upon Frodo. Legolas will protect him with his bow, as well as Gimli with his axe. Sam, hidden behind a bush comes out says Frodo will not go without him. From behind a pair of pillars, Pippin and Merry come running out to join. And lastly, Boromir joins as an envoy of Gondor. Thus the Fellowship Of the Ring, 9 companions.
Bilbo helps Frodo prepare for his long trek, by giving his his old dagger, the Sting, which glows when Orcs are near and a Methril armor, very light, but strong as diamond. During the preparation, Bilbo spots the ring, and asks if he could hold it again. After Frodo's refusal, Bilbo's dark side comes out for a half second as he grabs for the ring. But quickly comes to his senses, and apologizes for putting the boy through this. And thus they leave, led by Gandalf, they head out. Resting on a mountain top, Gimli brings up the mines of Moria, but Gandalf says he will not go unless there is no other way. Legolas spies a black cloud, which turns out to be crows, Saraumon's aerial spies. Convinced that the southern gap of Rohan is being watched, the company heads up a snowy, cold mountain pass. As the birds report back to Saraumon, he asks himself, if the mountain defeats them, where will they go then. As the company crosses the mountain, a faint old man's voice is heard, Gandalf knows right away it is The white wizard, as he is atop the tower of Orthanac, chanting a spell, which could bring about an avalanche. Gandalf tried to counter spell, but to no avail, as a pile of snow falls on the group. They realize that they can't beat the mountain, so they have to make a decision, that'll damn them either way. But the decision is Frodo's to make, so he chooses the Mines of Moria. Gandalf doesn't like it, but he goes along with it.
The felloeship reaches the outer gate to the mines, as moonlight strikes the door, entrance instuctions are revealed, "speak friend then enter". Gandalf thinks it's a password, but that does nothing. So for a few minutes, they contemplate, Pippin throws stones into a near lake, stopped by Aragorn. Frodo sees that it's an Elvish riddle, and asks Gandlf for the word for friend, He says it, the door opens. They enter, Gimli excited to see his cousin, the king, but as Gandalf shines a light, there are dwarf skeletons all over. As they exit in a rush, an octopus-ian creature surfaces out of the water, grabbing Frodo. With a bit of sword play, the group frees Frodo, and head into the cave. As they enter, the creature collapses the enterance atop of itself, leaving the group only one way, a four day journey til the end. As they make their way to a three tunnel choice, Gandalf realizes he doesn't know the way. Elsewhere, Sauramon reads from a book about why Gandalf is afraid to go in. Back in the mines, Frodo looks over a ledge sees that someone is following them. Gandalf says it's Gollum, trying to get the ring back. Frodo wishes he never got the ring, but Gandalf says that even though that may be true, he shouldn't fret because he was meant to get the ring. He realizes which way to go becasue the way does not smell foul. They make their way to a Great hall, passing by a tomb, which catches Gimil's eye, which he runs into and sees a tomb. It is revealed that it is his cousin as the group enters the room and a group of drwarves dug too far and unleashed something terrible. Pippin fools round with a skeleton, resulting in it's tumble down a well, noisily. After a momentr or tow, thinking nothing has harmed, drums are heard, and a band of orcs are seen coming. The group barricades themselves in the room, with an army of orcs beating on the door. Legolas and Aragorn fire arrows into a couple holes, hitting targets. But the doors are broken down, with a multitude of orcs charging in, starting abattle between the fellowship and an army or orcs. During the battle, a giant cave troll bursts in, wreaking more havoc. During the battle, it destroys the tomb, and knocks various member of the fellowship asunder. Until the point that it seemingly stabs Frodo, who then collapses. Then, Legolas shoots an arrow through the creatures throat, killing it. Everyone goes to Frodo who surprisingly isn't harmed. Where he was struck, he had on methril. So the gropu exits the tomb, thorugh the hall with haste, but are surrounded by thousands of orcs. Then, a boom is heard, and a light is reflected down the ways. The orcs retreat quick, Gandalf realizes what it is, and tells the group that they can't fight it and head for the bridge. On the way, they come up to a stairwell with a gap, forcing them to jump across. Gimli has to be grabbed by the beard by Legolas as he lands. But the edge of Aragorn's and Frodo's respective end falls off, stretching the gap further. The apporaching light and it's booming steps start to bring pieces of the roof down. Meanwhile, orcs high up fire arrows at the group. A large chumk falls, hitting behind the two, resulting in their section swaying into the group's part, and they all run towards the bridge. They all head for the bridge, being followed by a Balrog, a creatued made of shadow and fire. As Gandalf reaches the middle of the bridge, he makes a stand against the beast. First using his staff to block an attack, and then using it to destroy the half of the bridge the balrog was on. But as he turned around, Gandalf was lashed by the creature's fire whip, and pulled down into the shadow. Exiting the mines, the rest of the group mourn for am inute, but Aragorn warns that the hills will be swarming with orcs soon.
The fellowship make their way to the forest of Lothorien, ruled by a rogue group of elves leed by Gandriel. There she tells the group that the fellowship is fragile and could break, but there is hope. Meanwhile sauramon sends out a battalian of urak hai and orcs after the fellowship from isengard. Later that night, Frodo is approached by Gandriel to look in a magic mirro, there she shows him a shire aflame, and he friends in pain. This is a possible future if he doesn't take the ring to Mt. Doom. He tries to offer the ring to her, where she proclaims, with a burst of magic, that if she accepts it, she will be a powerful and loved queen. But she doesn't take the ring, and says she will go to the west. The next day, she gives the group gifts and support, amoung them Frodo a light to shine in the darkest.
The group take three elvish boats down the great river, as the battalion of Urak hai and orcs edge closer. They pass two enormous statutes of past kings, which Aragorn had long to see. As they travel, Legolas becomes aware of the arriving armies. The group brings the boats to rest on the western shore, close to a water fall. There the group stes up camp and notice that Frodo has gone. He is in the woods where Boromir approaches him saying he understands that Frodo is experiencing pain and offers to temproarily take the ring. But Frodo is weary and doesn't, which make Boromir increasingly angry as he is refused, until he goes after Frodo and tries to take the ring. Frodo puts the ring on, disappears and gets away from Boromir. To which he says that the hobbit will give it to Sauron and doom them all. But realizing what has happened, cries that he is sorry. Frodo heads up hill towards an old look out and upon it, sees the tower of Sauron falls back, taking off the ring in mid fall, hitting the ground. Aragorn shows uo asking about the ring, Frodo seems weary of the ranger, thinking he'll fall under the spell as well. But shows the ring ands Aragorn that it took Boromir. Frodo asks if he can protect him from himself, showing the ring in an open hand. It seems that Aragorn will take the ring, as it calls his name, but he closes Frodo's hand, telling him he would have gone to the end and helped him throw it into Mt. Doom. Thus he looks down at Frodo's sword and tell the the hobbit to run. Aragorn turns the corner and sees an army of orcs blocking the path. Unsheathing his sword, he faces the army head on, without hesitation, and fights them all around and a top the lookout, and jumping on top of a group of them, until Legolas and Gimli show up and join the fray. and kills just about all the urak hai there. Thus Legolas hears the Horn of Gondor. And heads for it.
As Sam searches for Frodo, the young hobbit hides behinda tree as Urak Hai pass them. Pippin and Merry are hidden behinda bush across a path, and try to signal for Frodo to come. Merry realizes that Frodo is leaving, and decides to call the orc army's attention to another direction, allowing Frodo to escape. As the two hobbits run away, they are attacked but an Urak Hai tries to strike them down, as Boromir comes running to protect them. And kills a bunch of urak hai, until the leader shoots him with three arrows. He tries to fight through each shot, but after the third one, Boromir realizes he has no strength left to do it. And watches as the Two hobbits are grabebd by the army as they try to return the favor. As the Urak Hai is about to strike Boromir down with one more arrow, Aragorn arrives and fights the larger enemy. After a battle, Aragorn defeats him by cutting off his right arm and decapitation. Aragorn tries to comfort Boromir, as Gimli and Legolas arrive. Boromir tells him that he tried to take the ring and the age of man is doomed. But Aragorn says that he will not let Gondor fall or the age of man die. To which an enlightened Boromir swears allegiance before he dies. At the shore, Frodo thinks about what Gandalf said to himabout making your own decisions, and takes off in one of the boats. Sam catches up to the shore as the boat is mid river. Crying out to his friend, Sam tells Frodo he can't go alone, and heads out into the water, even though Frodo tells him he can't swim. But he still heads out, while Frod protests and is over come by the water, and almost drowns. But Frodo reaches in and pulls the soaked hobbit out of the water. Sam tells Frodo that he made a promise not to let Frodo out of his sight. Frodo said ok and the two rowed across the river. A little later, Legolas tries to take one of the boats, as Aragorn ties up Boromir's wristbands on. He tells the elf to let them go. Gimli thinks the fellowship has failed, but Aragorn says not as long as the three stay true to each other, and the should try to save Merry and Pippin, thus giving Gimli renewed frevor, and the three run after the army's trail. On mountain range, with the dark skies of Mordor a ways away, Frodo wonders if he will see his friends again, to which Sam says that they just might. As they start walking down the range, Frodo tells Sam he's glad the other hobbit is there. And thus they head towards Mordor.
