A K I R A
From the ashes of a nuclear eruption in July 1988, Tokyo, much like the phoenix, has risen again. After thirty years, Neo-Tokyo is now an enormous metropolis rampant with urban violence and street gangs.
Tetsuo, a member of a biker gang, is taken to a government laboratory after an accident. There, the government conducts experiments on the boy, giving him telekinesis power.
Kaneda is the leader of the street gang. He's trying to find his childhood chum Tetsuo after he is taken.
The government fears what it does not control. After the boy escapes, they try to destroy him by any means at their disposal, which of course means a military arsenal.
Realizing his power, Tetsuo has put himself in the position of a god. He takes refuge in the city's olympic stadium.
Kaneda finds Tetsuo and is determined to bring his power mad friend down, no matter what. Even a high powered laser gun isn't enough to stop the omnipotent young man.
In order to keep the powers under control, Tetsuo must take drugs to keep what is left of his sanity. In the end, he can't control the power and ultimately swells to grand proportions.
