Best of 2002
After a year of viewing, I have finally come to the time of the year I get to tell you what the five great films earn a spot in my dvd collection with honor. It goes from lest great to absolute best:
5: STAR WARS EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES:
This is the film that should, by all rights, have been the first film in the new trilogy, but what can you do? A better story line than the first one, and action that doesn't seem tacked on this time around. The story involves Obi-Wan Kenobi's effort to find a would be assassin as Anakin Skywalker keeps a watchful, and loving eye over senator Amidala.

4: BLADE II:
An adrenaline IV of a film as the daywalker must join up with a group of vampire commandoes to annihilate a group of super vampires killing off the vampire nation. The action is upped to an almost insane level as Blade tries to kill or be killed, and fought through an occassional double cross. Keep the oxygen on hand!

3: HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS:Year two takes a darker road this time around as Young Mr. Potter is determined to find who opened the mysterious room that has claimed many a student and threatens to close down the school. The kids are a little older, but they are growing into the roles. Excellent addition of Kenneth Branagh who presents the role like no one else possibly could. T'is a sad pity that Richard Harris shall be Dumbledore no more.

2:SPIDER-MAN:
For the better part of a year, this was the film miles ahead of all the others on my list. I said if they did the film right and didn't try to Schumacher it, it would arguably be one of the best comic book adaptaions ever made. And despite the purists initial rebukes of changes to the character, they have, in unison, applauded this film with so much gusto. The cast is picture perfect, none more perfect than Tobey Maguire as he hits every nuance, every look of longing, every effort of determination as the hero who feels he has to use his newfound powers in an effort to make sure no one will be wronged as long as he has breath.

And the best film of the year 2002

1: THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS:
Initially, I thought that the original was merely second best of the year 2001, but upon repeated viewings, I had to learn my lesson. And now as it was before, the continuation(less a sequel) takes the top spot this year right out of the gate. The landscapes are as the last one, a painting come to life, the plot is exceptional for a fantasy/sci-fi film, CGI's like you haven't seen before, and there are even a few surprises for even the readers of the book. The performances are top notch, and will regester emotions much as the second one did and a climax that makes even the much balley hooed Episode II climax run away like a baby. The creation of Gollom IS the most realistic CGI character ever created! Ok now to the plot: Frodo and Sam trudge to Mordor, and realize they need the former ringbearer Gollum to lead them there, Merry and Pippin manage to escape the Orcs/Urak-hai to end up in the prescence of the ent Treebeard, while Aragorn, Gimili, and Legolas not only discover that Gandalf did not perish in the shadow, but has become even more powerful. From there the three seek to free the kingdom of Rohan from the grasp of Sauramon, resulting in an evacuation to a fabled fortress where an army of 300 men and boys must face off against an army of 10,000 orcs and Urak-hai. I worship upon the altar that is LOTR and wilst pick up a copy of return of the king asap! And I await placing that film atop next year's best of list! Thank you good night!
