Best of 2001
Can it be a year already since I have written up a best of list for the year? Well, here goes my list for the best five films and the whys in descending order:
#1: The Lord Of The Rings-The Fellowship of the Ring
Based On JRR Tolken's book, A young Hobbit accepts the task of taking the most vile object on the planet to the place of it's inception. Amidt the perils of the journey, he gains the protection of a group of representing the tribes of Middle Earth: Men, Wizards, Dwarves, and Elves. It took me until 2002 to realize that this is the best film I have ever seen! What an incredible, sprawling canvas in order to tell this immense story. And you can feel the actors dedication to this film in each peformance. Peter Jackson really took his time to make this one of the most incredible movie going experiences EVER!!#2 Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone:
A young boy gets accepted to a school for wizards and follows his first year there. Watching this film, I just felt the excitement of my youth, watching films that would become my favorites. And just giving my imagination a whirl. The film just kept an amazing feeling of wonder and astonishment and could be branded an instant classic. It was two and half hours, but didn't seem it at all.
#3 Shrek:
An ogre rescues a princess so he can get fairy tale creatures out of his once peaceful swamp. What makes the film work are the in-jokes meant for adults and pot shots at Disney. But the thing that makes the film one of the best of the year are the fact that the voices actually fit the characters. You don't think they are the actors, but real characters.
#4 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon:
A legendary sword is stolen whilst a warrior deals with his feelings for his dead master's once beloved. It is easy to say how awesome the film looks, but the story does bog down a little bit at times. BUT, it is the best martial arts film to come out this year(well it came out in January around here) and could be a cousin to the "Star Wars" Saga.
#5 A.I:
A young android tries to find his way into becoming real so his "Mommy" will love him. The more I think about this film, I like it a little more each time. I gave it a 3 1/2 rating originally but there is just too much in this film to leave out. Easily the most thought provoking film of the year.Return home
