My best of 2000
I'v seen quite the few films this year, so here are my best of picks this year. There ain't no oscar hopefuls in here, but I will give my reasons for defending them.
#1 Unbreakable:
The story of a man who is the only survivor of a train wreck and his search and discovery why. This is the most serious film ever on the subject of comic books and never for one minute makes me feel like an idiot. And Bruce Willis's performance is just incredible: Here's a man who looks like he's been beaten by life and he doesn't know why, and yet when given the solution, doesn't know if he wants it. One of the best films I've seen Maybe ever.
#2 The Legend of Drunken Master:
Jackie Chan stars as a young man trying to save some chinese artifacts from British imperialists, whilst trying to stay in his father's good graces. I am a huge martial Arts fan and this film contains the best fighting choreography I have ever seen in a genre film. It is the pearl in Chan's repetroire.
#3 The Perfect Storm:
A fishing boat tries to make it through the most powerful storm in recorded history. Let's face it: You went to see it for the huge wave, but the characters, when not slipping into cliches, are very rootable. But the effects are incredible.
#4 X-Men:
Based on the comic book, a team of mutants try to stop and evil one from killing a gropu of world leaders. There's your plot pure and simple. But each one is unique and each character is given a chance to do something. But Hugh Jackman is a perfect Wolverine. For you purists, you forget about the fact that he is 6 inches taller than his comic book counterpart, but he makes Wolvie believable.
#5 Mission:Impossible 2:
Ethan Humt tries to stop a rogue agent from releasing a super deadly form of the flu. Ok, the middle is pretty sappy, but director John Woo and Tom Cruise are the start and Woo puts Tommy through the riggers and takes him to his limits and us to stunt work heaven as Cruise does most, if not all of his unbelieable stunts!
