Online Class 3 – Susan’s log of the TWT Enterprise

For Monday’s class on 5/28, my group met at six o’clock, before our actual online total class meeting. We discussed our posting for our Friday 5/26 group assignment because I had to post it for our group since I was the facilitator for the week. We had questions like, where in the DF should we post our class assignment. I thought I posted it on the DF in “group summary 3”. Later that night when I was going back over the readings and assignments due, I realized I must have posted my group’s assignment in the wrong place. I believed I posted it in the “summary group 3” section but it ws not there. I will try and repost it there again. Our group then discussed the wiki assignment due, exchanged ideas and by that time, it was time to head over the main online class.

Dr S. started the class with an anticipatory set where each one of us had to tell the class what we thought was the topic and main concepts of the course; as well as, 3 major concepts of the course in order of importance. Everyone gave some great answers and Dr. S focused in on Millennials, Learning, Teaching to LoTi/ ISTE/NETS, and Instructional design (ISD) with technology. We then met with our group to discuss 5-6 characteristics of millennials and each group had one minute to present their groups’ list to the class. (Needless to say, since I am a slow typist and cut and paste artist, as well as being my group’s facilitator for the week, the 1 minutes time frame did not work well for me.) Again, every group did a great job and quoting some of the characteristics listed from group 2 “1) Gen. M. are hyper-communicators: they use many means to stay in constant touch with their peers. 2) They are multitaskers, they are capable of watching TV, browsing the Internet, listening to music, and communicating with their friends at the same time. 3) Goal oriented 4) Digital students are more ambitious than the traditional student.  5) Gen. M. are very creative, especially with the technology that they use every day.  6) We must learn how to change the way our educational system is designed.

After every group presented, Dr. S. said it was an impressive and comprehensive list. Dr. S also mentioned that the author of Connecting Generations, Claire Raines expressed eight key trends that have had a profound effect on Millennials personality. She mentioned a few and said she would post the rest for us to later look at. We then viewed the website of “The Million Dollar Homepage” where a college student (to fund his college cost) sold pixels for $1.  The class gave different viewpoints about the site and we ended with more assignments to be posted.
