Family: Pea (Leguminosae)
Growth Form: Perennial herb.
Stems: Spreading to erect, branched, hairy, up to 2 feet long.
Leaves: Alternate, divided into 3 leaflets, the leaflets oval to obovate, rounded at the tip, tapering to the base, finely toothed, hairy, often with a dark central spot, up to 2 inches long.
Flower Arrangement: Many flowers, crowded together into shperical or ovoid heads, each head usually not borne on a stalk.
Flowers: Reddish, about 1/2 inch long; without stalks.
Petals: 5, reddish, arranged to form a typical pea-shaped flower.
Stamens: 10
Pistil: Ovary superior.
Fruits: Pods oblong, poening by a lid.
Discussion:The Red Clover's time of flowering is normally from May to September. It is most commonly associated with Milfoil (Achillea millefolium), common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca), Queen Anne's lace (Daucus carota), annual fleabane (Erigeron annuus), and white sweet clover (Melilotus alba).
