When we last saw the YJLA-Next, they (minus Mercury) were stranded on a satellite built to commemorate the destruction of the Earth, which apparently occurred in 1999. And, due to their unexpected trip to the year 2099, Universe Boy and Hour-Father are trapped there as well, only they hail from the 25th Century. To top off a bad day, Hour-Father's attempt to access the Chronoulog has unwittingly freed Black Atom the Anti-Magus.

"The void of non-existence is behind me now," he says to himself. "Time to see where and when I am."

Hour-Father tries to banish the villain to a point outside the timestream, but Black Atom's mastery of temporal mechanics is greater than that of the fledging Guardian of the Chronoulog. The android collapses from the chronal feedback. The Anti-Magus quickly assesses his position, dismissing most of the heroes as insignificant. He is much more interested in the obelisk, attesting to the destruction of planet Earth in 1999.

"This is more like it!" the time-lost villain brags. "All I needed to do is wait a hundred years, and Earth, with all it's metas, is no longer an issue!"

"Maybe you need to check the expiration date on your brain, Atom. If the Earth blows up before you evolved from War-Lok the Monitor then you'll never exist," Snapper Jones, mentor of the Young Justice League Avengers - Next, tells the evil entity. "You neeed the Earth just as much as we do!" Snapper's never really understood the concept of time paradox, but he hopes his adversary can be bluffed into aiding them.

"Not this time, whelp! Captain Adam may have suckered me into helping wipe out the Age of Apokolips with that line once, but that was before I discovered Hyper-Cross-Time! I'm a free-agent now!"

"In that case," says a quick-thinking Universe Boy, "you might want to do something about Captain Albion, who just went back to 1999 to prevent Earth's destruction."

"You lie!" The Anti-Magus flips a bolt of quantum energy at the Lad of a Thousand Powers, who easily deflects it. "You're just trying to trick me!"

"Check my files," Hour-Father suggests. "The exact details are written into my memory."

Spider-Boy gets tired of waiting for someone to blink and rushes Black Atom. "Let's take this chump!"

Sparrow sighs and Snapper Jones flinches as the rest of the teen heroes enter the fray. Wondercat and Spider-Boy tag-team the Anti-Magus while Insect Queen carries Arrowcaster aloft to deliver a charged lightning arrow. Bouncing Ball hurls himself skyward in an effort to increase the force bubbles within him. Cloud hesitates, looking to Snapper for some sign of what to do.

Red Vision, only recently reactivated to participate in this mission, acts on his years of experience with the judgment League: Avengers. Becoming intangible, the android brings his body to overlap with Black Atom's. There he summons a mighty twister to disorientate their foe and give the kids a chance to do some damage.

Black Atom responds by generating a quantum field that repels both Spider-Boy and Wondercat. Arrowcaster's shot still makes it through, but the electric shock has no effect other than to grab the villain's attention. Beams of energy crackle around his eyes as he fires them off, searing one of Insect Queen's gossamer wings. "I beat Apocalypso, and you send children and an automaton to stop me?"

"Nope, they were just softening you up for the main event!" Universe Boy delivers a punch with the kinetic force of a 10 megaton bomb. The blow sends him soaring across the horizon, to where Bouncing Ball awaits. Chuck Baldwin rebounds the Anti-Magus with an almost equal force. Universe Boy marvels at how Bouncing Ball coordinated with him, almost as if they had trained together in the past.

"Cloud, NOW!" shouts Snapper Jones from his hover-chair. The gaseous teen spreads herself out, forming a twinkling dust cloud stretching as far as the eye can see. She is instantly sucked up by Red Vision's tornado, and flung into Black Atom's face with enough velocity to embed her particle form deep within his skin.

"Arrgh!" Black Atom the Anti-Magus flails uselessly, expending energy against himself in an effort to remove the stardust attack. "The void! Not again!"

"Star-Light, Star-Bright," whispers cloud so that only Black Atom can hear. "I'm the last star you'll see this night."

As Spider-Boy recovers from his own failed attack, he has trouble following the actions transpiring before him. "Is that Cloud on him?"

"It WAS Cloud," Universe Boy informs him. "What you are witnessing is the maturation of a sentient celestial body."

"You mean Cloud is a star?" Insect Queen also finds the event incredible. "Talk about not living up to your potential!"

Bouncing Ball takes a more practical stance to this revelation. "This is going to hurt, isn't it?"

Everyone can see Cloud manifest in front of Black Atom, grabbing him with white-hot hands, becoming more substantial every moment, building in mass and energy exponentially.

"She's gonna fry him!" Wondercat exclaims. "Him and us!"

"And the rest of the solar system if we don't stop her from reaching critical mass!" Universe Boy redirects his power from being a heat shield to opening a worm hole that shunts a portion of Cloud's solar radiation to a far corner of the galaxy. Still the heat is tremendous.

Cloud notices the power drain. "Don't mess with me!! In a few more moments you will all be beneath my notice! Flee while you still can!"

"I've seen that look before," Snapper points out. "She's got 'Malevolent Cosmic Entity' written all over her!"

Still struggling to pay attention to the tiny hominids, Cloud accidentally sends out a telepathic cry that mentally deafens all those around her.\\Help me!//

Black Atom takes advantage of her distraction to bend space-time, creating a quantum-warp that will carry him to Apokolips and his old ally Thanoseid. Hour-Father instantly picks up on the disturbance, and re-maps the chronal breach. The Anti-Magus disappears in the cosmic rift, followed by a vengeful Cloud.

"Follow them!" Hour-Father commands. "I can't hold it open more than 21.009 more seconds!"

Without waiting for an explanation the assembled heroes traverse the rift by means of the Time Square. A turbulent eternity later, they re-enter real-time. "I didn't have enough time to cancel Atom's quantum field, but I did have a chance to reroute him here, where neither he nor Cloud would be much of a threat to the Earth."

"What Earth? It's been gone a hundred years now." Wondercat sneers, unsatisfied with her inability to keep up with everything going on.

"But all that is a hundred years away now. Welcome back to 1999."

Snapper double-checks the Time-Square to confirm Hour-Father's claim. "This is perfect!" he yells out. "Now we can still save the Earth from annihilation!"

"Check again, Snaps." Sparrow hates to burst his bubble, but...

"Aw, nuts! Can't just ONE thing go right today?"

Bouncing Ball opens his mouth to add his own two-cents worth, and is held silent by the arrival of a large force comprising several superhuman beings. One of them speaks out, his voice seemingly carrying through the void of space to the interior of the floating Time-Square.

\\You are violating Shi'Karren Empire territory and are ordered to stand down and surrender! So speaks Gladiauron of the Omega Guard!//

And somewhere in the distance, a star screams out in agony.
