Leaving the Classroom
For some students each year, leaving the classroom becomes a problem. For this reason, I watch for patterns in student behavior. I do not have a set number of times that a student can leave the room, but think 5 a week is plenty. I encourage the students to drink water to stay hydrated and realize that means more trips to the bathroom. Students are encouraged to use the bathrooms before they enter the classroom and during recesses. If there is a medical problem, please advise me privately and we will make arrangments. I prefer students not leaving while I am teaching (talking), unless it is an emergency. If the student does leave at this time, it is their responsibility to find out what they missed from their groupmates.
Snacks & Water Bottles
Staying hydrated assists in the well-being of a student, and therefore aids the learning process. Having a water bottle will also prevent excessive trips from the classroom to the water fountains. The water bottles do need to have a lid to prevent spills. (Light colored Gaterade is okay, but absolutely NO ENERGY drinks!) Healthy snacks are also encouraged in the morning. They must be nutritious and quiet please! NO CANDY!
