eddie dharmawan, nyoman kurniawan, kadek suryawan
he find the
similarity of music taste with them, which is make him so
easy to learn guitar. now the history of the band just
get started.
they started the band by playing session or cover versions of nirvana's, sonic youth's and silverchair's songs on a music studio that they rent for an hour or two, or sometimes on delta music studio that belong to kadek's cousin. when they starting play good as a band on the studio, they starting to wrote their own songs.
they also try to find the band name. nyoman are always love to watching the beautiful sky during the sunset on padang-padang beach, one of the most gorgeous surfing spot in bali ( at that time ). so peaceful he said. then they decided to have scenicsky as their band name.
scenicsky first stage experience was on february 1997, on an underground gigs in legian, kuta beach area. they perform their own songs. on june, nyoman starting his first semester on his new college 'state polythechnic of bali' where he mets his future bloody mate, putra "kablut" dana, a member of a grunge band called 'morgans'.
the event that had a major impact to scenicsky are 'grunge is dead' on september 1997, the show that make them well known. they share the stage with other grunge bands : fakatreyu, stupid tunnel, morgans and two names that already famous on the underground world in bali : utero and obligasi. thru this gigs, they also met and known the artist community of sastra faculty (udayana university), that promote the show. after the show over, the four bands (scenicsky, utero, obligasi and morgans) are became a very close friend. that spend a lot of time together, share events info, get drunk together, practice on studio together, celebrate crazy birthday party, etc. a grunge community. the community are sometimes also join the artist community of sastra faculty on nias street, denpasar city. the friendship that still happens until now.
on september 1998, scenicsky records their first full demo tape on khrisna gita records (#@!*^*$% sucks !!!). but they're not quite happy with the results. too soft nyoman said, lack of noise and guitar feedback distortion. so they record it again on na surya studio two month laters. and then they have their 'real' demo tape.
on 1999 the demo tape are on the air around the island of bali, played by cassanova FM, and the band are also having an interview live on the radio. on 2000 the demo tape are also played by mgt FM (city of bandung). the demo tape reach the rank 23 from Indie Top 50 on the Year 2000 radio request.
on the closing
years of 1999, scenicsky had to vacuum for a while,
during kadek's activities on his college(fucking
nerds !). their last performance was on the
underground events 'kediri bawah tanah' in the
district of tabanan.
nyoman and eddie can't live without on a band, so they make a very sick hardcore session band along with jody iswantoro/guitar + kablut/drums (morgans) and ian subagyo/bass (zero 2 nine), the band are porn superstar. nyoman are the vocalist and eddie are the lead guitarist. after 7 (seven) show, on september 2000 nyoman and eddie are request to out from porn superstar, since they want to concentrate with their 'original band'. but the hardcore band are succesfully well known on the world of underground rock in bali and succesfully run a friendship business by build a cafe & music studio in pulau bungin street (denpasar city) that called 'negative cafe & musick studio' using an unused old big storage. this place expected to became the home of the underground rock community. but then nyoman and ian are out from the business for a personal reasons, off course it's not ruin the friendship among them. these days nyoman's and eddie's position on the band are replace by lembo and tewe (ex member of 'obligasi').
scenicsky now has return to the world. they're on stage again at the underground gigs 'tabanan anti vakuum' along with 'total idiot', 'depresi', etc. , in grokgak sports hall, the district of tabanan, on november 18th 2000. After the success show, they perform again on Sastra Music Unplugged VI on 24th of April 2001.
