Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz was in  November of 1648 in a town called,San Miguel Mepantla, southeast of Mexico City. she has lived on a small farm with her mother, while her father was absent from her life. Sor Juana had asked her sisters teachers at the age of three  if she could go to school to learn how to read. She was avery tough child in that if she didn't learn fast enough she would cut her hair off. She even gave up her favorite food cheese, because it was thought that it stopped learning. So indeed she was very driven to learn at a quick speed.
Sor Juana had told her mother to dress her up like a boy, so that she could attend university in Mexico City. It was very strange and unusual for someone to go to a university if you were a girl. But her mother would not allow such a thing, so she taught herself.
When she was twelve she met The Marquis of Mancera in court because he wanted ot see how smart this child really was. Here she performed tasks like writing poems, and took an oral examination in front of many scholars and other important people.
On August 14th, 1667 Sor Juana had joined a convent that was spanish- born, and women dominated. This is where she earned her full name Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz. Finally Sor Juana had published her first work
The Overflowing of the Castalian Spring, by the Tenth Muse of Mexico, Which she dedicated to her sponsors and family.
Soon after he term ended her father had encouraged her to stop writing, so she went back to the convent. She had signed a declaration of Faith in blood and never wrote again. On April 17, 1695, Sor Juana died from a plague. She will always be remembered being a women who influenced Spanish- America, but could have done more if she was a male. But from her writings women discovered that you can be heard.
