FEBRUARY
The
Sabah College D+T was initiated
on 27th February 2003 after
the D+T Young Leader Programme
training course was held for
one week from 22nd February
2003 till 27th February 2003.
Ten students were choosen for
this training course. Sabah
College is linking with Ashton-On-Mersey
Sport School in Manchester as
part of this programme. A UK
trainer, Mr. John Stephenson,
conducted the course. As part
of the course, the Ten Young
Leaders organized a Mini Sport
Festival. The Mini Sport Festival
took place at SK Sri Gaya on
26th February 2003. A total
of hundred primary school pupils
took part in this festival.
APRIL
On
the 14th-15th April 2003, the
Sabah College Dreams + Teams
Young Leaders organized a donation
campaign for the war victims
in Iraq. In just two days, the
team managed to collect amount
of RM 1111.89. All the teachers
and students of Sabah College
took part in this donation campaign.
MAY
A
Young Leader training course
was held for another ten new
Young Leaders. Sabah College
Link Teacher, Coach Gerard De
Souza and British Council Project
Manager, Ms. Janet Ooi conducted
this training course with the
help of the ten trained Young
Leaders.
JUNE
Another
Mini Sport Festival was organized
the Sabah College D+T YL's.
All the twenty Young Leaders
organized this festival. It
was held at SRK Stell Maris
with a total of one hundred
and twenty primary school pupils
taking part.
AUGUST
In
conjuction with the Malaysian
Independence Day, the Sabah
College D+T YL's organized their
third Mini Sport Festival. This
time, the festival was held
at Sabah College itself. A number
of 100 students took part in
this festival.
SEPTEMBER
The
Sabah College D+T YL's went
ther first video conference
with the UK D+T YL's in Ashton-On-Mersey(AOM)
Sports School, Manchester. The
video conferencing enabled the
YL's to meet their UK peers
and at the same time exchanged
information about the upcoming
Global Sport Festival. The YL's
alsohad the oppurtunity to perform
a traditional dance, called
the Sumazau for their UK peers.
On the other hand, the YL's
from AOM demonstrated how the
"Conker" game was
played.
OCTOBER
On
17th October 2003, the global
Sport Festival, which was held
in twenty countries across the
world, took place in Sabah College.
Ten primary schools across Kota
Kinabalu took part in this festival.
All together, a number of 150
primary school pupils took part
in this festival. The festival
was officiated by Datuk Malik
Mydin, the first South-East
Asian to swim across the English
Channel. Also present was the
Director of British Council
Malaysia, Mr.Gerry Liston. As
part of the linking programme,
the Global Sport Festival held
in Sabah College is based on
the UK theme while the Global
Sport Festival held in AOM,
Manchester is based on the Malaysian
theme.
