SABAH
COLLEGE DREAMS + TEAMS ENVIRONMENTAL
PROJECT
In
conjuction with "Earth Day",
the Sabah College Dreams + Teams organized
the "mangrove Replanting - One
Student One Tree" project. The
main purpose of this project is to
give awreness to all the students
as well as the teachers of Sabah College
on the importance of conserving and
protecting the environment in line
with the school's environment motto
"Our Environment, Our Concern,
Our Responsibility. It is beleived
that mangroves help to with stand
the force and damage caused by the
unexpected natural disaster such as
the tragedy of the Tsunami which happened
on the 26th of December 2004. Initially,
it was the D+T environment project
but due to the students overwhelming
support and ethusiasm in taking part
in this project, it became a school
project. Each students and teachers
donated RM 2.50 to buy the mangrove
seedlings.
It
was officiated on the 22nd of April
2005 at Kota KInabalu City Bird Sanctuary
(KKCBS) Likas, by Miss Susana Galvan,
Director of Education and Training
British Council Malaysia. 80 students
from D+T, Geography Club and Nature
Club were involved on that day including
the parent of Ms.Susana Galvan who
were on their holiday. The ceremony
began with a clean-up followed by
the re-planting and also cheque presentation
worth RM 3500 to KKCBS. In her speech
during the ceremony, Ms.Susana Galvan
had mentioned, despite her second
visit to Sabah, it was her first visit
to KKCBS and at the same time to really
experienced herself in planting mangrove.
