Living in 1897. HYAMS, Hamilton 17/B PVT Charleston Enlisted at Charleston, SC, 20 Feb 1862, and furnished a substitute (Peter TOGLIO). Previously served in Jones' Co. (Jackson Guard), 16th SC Militia Infantry. Later served in Co. H, 1st Charleston Guard SC Infantry. HYDE, Joseph B. 30 5/D PVT Based on company records, apparently enlisted after 1 Mar 1865. No other record of service found. HYER, James S. (1832-1911) 30 1MM/J 17/A 5/D CPL CPL PVT Charleston b. 2 Dec 1832. 6' 0" tall, dark complexion, dark hair, dark eyes, occupation: mechanic. Entered State service at Charleston, SC, 6 Nov 1861. Appt. CPL, 30 Jan 1862. Reenlisted in Confederate service at Charleston, SC, 17 Feb 1862, and appt. SGT. Resigned as SGT and returned to ranks, 16 May 1862. Furnished a substitute (George STRAUSS, 27 Jun 1862 - 1 Apr 1863, and then rejoined company. Last reported on 31 Dec 1864, as detached with BG P. M. B. YOUNG in South Carolina. Post-war, partner in Browne & Hyer, Gas and Steam Fitters and Plumbers, Charleston, SC. d. 16 Sep 1911, and buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, SC. m. Ella S. HYER (1833 - 1920). HYOTT (HIOTT), [Daniel] 1MM/J [PVT] [Colleton] Performed picket and guard duties with the company during the period 11 Nov-Dec 1861, but no other record of service found. Apparently detached from Oswald's Co., 1st (Martin's) SC Mounted Militia.
