CALLING
ALL HIGH SCHOOLERS
It was very
disappointing to have to inform the Parish Life committee today that
we were unsuccessful in finding any of the 9-12th grade crowd to take
charge of the games part of this year's church picnic. We know you're
out there but we're not going to drag you in kicking and screaming,
that's not the point of Youth Fellowship. You have to come because you
want to. We're trying to come up with ideas that will interest you but
it's really hard without input from you.
Let me start
by appealing to your intentions for the future. Service and mission
projects sound really dull, boring or ugly...too much like work? Yeah,
well these are the things that deans are looking for on your college
apps and besides things like Hope Club, National Honor Society and Student
Council, church is where you're going to find these opportunities that
will add caveats to your applications. And the more you have? The better
your chances of landing that college you really want. Today we did a
service project that was actually fun, building bears for the children
of Spooner House. Yesterday was the Postal Workers Food Drive. Sure
that was work but actually fun work. We are still working on creative
ways to raise money and goods for our sistser church in New Orleans
and for the Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS...all devistated by the hurricanes
of this past summer.
Next Fall
the Senior Hi Youth Fellowship will go back into full swing. With a
lot of fun stuff and some service/mission events. We'd really like to
take a group to Nightwatch at St. John the Divine in NYC again. Bowling?
Skating? Movies? What do you want to do? We're not going to hunt you
down. You're teens who want to be treated with respect? Then call or
email a member of the YMT.
