Will There Be Any Guns Or Bombs On The Helicopter?
Will This Helicopter Fly Again?
No, not as part of this restoration.  Parts are very rare and in order to complete the restoration we will use parts that look good but that can not be certified for flight.
What Markings Will Be On The Finished Aircraft?
This helicopter's markings span a period from the mid fifties to the mid seventies.  Unless continued research proves otherwise, the markings for this restoration will date to late 1961 to early 1962.
No,  unless continued research shows otherwise, these helicopters were unarmed during the time period of the restoration and possible  very early service in Veitnam.  The aircraft does not have the door gun mounts.
Are There Parts Available For This Helicopter?
Yes, there will be a full time (volunteer) staff job to locate and recover needed parts for the project.
Did This Helicopter Serve In Vietnam?
At this point we wstill are not sure.  The aircraft history that we did receive from the ARMY was incomplete, but based on that partial history were are much more confident that it did serve in combat in Vietnam. The debate rages on and we continue to look for conclusive proof to put this major issue to bed.
This Helicopter Is In Really Bad Shape, Why Restore This One?
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush...  The Quonset Air Museum owns 51-15892 outright.  There are others of this type around, but they come with ownership conditions and still require restoration work.  Every dollar invested in the work on 51-15892 is invested in the QAM owned collection.
Why Is Sean Carroll The Project Coordinator?
Following a two month process, including a written proposal and restoration plan, management of the Quonset Air Museum voted to give the project to Sean Carroll.  Sean Carroll has been involved in aircraft restoration since 1974.
What Is Going To Happen To The Aircraft When The Restoration Is Complete?
The aircraft will go on display at the Quonset Air Museum at Quonset State Airport in Rhode Island.
