Frances Marie Alcaraz
Frances Marie "Panch" Alcaraz is a free-lance illustrator and graphic designer. She is the
author-illustrator of two picture books, The Lost Necklace and The Broken Eggs, which were
published in Japan and translated into various languages. Her illustrations for the books are
currently being exhibited in different countries. She also illustrated A Great Miracle, Alamat
ng Bahaghari, and The Flying Friar. Her works were also included in the INKuwento postcard
book and the RCBC Kuwentong Kalikasan Katha ng Kabataan.
A member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Panch is quite proactive
when it comes to her career. Sending her artwork from Manila, she was among the participants
in the Illustrator's Showcase at the 4th SCBWI Mid-Winter Conference in New York City last
February 2003. She has also participated in various art competitions, and her awards include
a Runner-up prize in the 1996 ACCU Noma Concours Picture Book Illustrations in Tokyo,
Japan and 1st Runner-up in the 2001 PBBY Illustrator's Prize.
Panch's other involvements include Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK), the first and only
association of children's illustrators in the Philippines, where is the current President. She also
teaches illustration courses at the Ateneo de Manila University, her alma mater where she has
received the Deans' Award for Excellence in Graphic Arts. Based in Quezon City, Philippines,
