| My First Aid Training Came in Handy! | |||
| (I know that this didn't happen at Soak City. But if it wasn't because of my training, I wouldn't have known what to do.) It was during the first night of Spring Break. My friends were taking a nap in the room and I was going to go swimming with a bunch of new friends from Santa Barbara City College. (Seen Below) The guys roomed on the flight under ours. So I walked down the stairs to meet up with some of them. And I see that there is water up and down the hallway from people who already had been to the pool. Then as I get to the door I see blood on the ground and I see it on the wall too and again high up on the doorjam of the bathroom. The guys are standing around trying to help but not quite sure what to do. The injured guy is leaning with his head in the shower, so as to not get blood everywhere. I ask what happened. Turns out the floor was too slippery and the guy was a little tipsy and he slipped and smaked his head into the wall. | V So I get one of the guys to get help and I grab a towel for the bleeding guy. Since I don't have any gloves, I hand him the towel and tell him to place it on his head and apply a lot of pressure. Then I have his friends help move him to the bed where we elevate his feet to keep the circulation. I also tried to keep his head above his heart level so that there is less bleeding. I kept him talking to me, just in case, it was after all a head injury. Soon one of the security guys arrive with bandaids. And they remove the towel. The wound was about the width of a pencil and about a centimeter deep. By this time the bleeding had almost completely stopped and he wasn't going to need stitches. The next day he was up and enjoying his Spring Break again as if nothing happend. |
