Your best friend?

I know I came up out of the blue
Didn't think I was a threat-
Until I got there before you.
I never knew your heart was set.

I'd found another glimpse of happiness
-By now you'd think I'd learn to know
Whenever I reach for a smile, I make a mess.
Surely it was different now; you'd think that; but no.

Just starting to get somewhere, settle in my way
Embark on a journey, for once in the right direction.
Although there wasn't a great deal to say.
I couldn't have been less prepared for rejection.

But your best friend! You give him such good advice
Obviously you know what's best
But pressuring him to dump me isn't so nice
It's just you two-faced advantage over the rest.
