Sunlit Path

There's a sunlit path I love to walk
On those long summer days
Through the leaves of autumn's talk
Across the flower's maze

And as her silent footsteps fall
before my own are heard
The sun shines gently on the small
Delicately singing bird.

There's a sunlit path I love to walk
It leads to memory lane
And when I get there, what to feel?
Love, happiness or pain?

For since the days we smiled here
A wicked crime is done
A pain more deadly than my fear
Now I come here alone.

There's a sunlit path I love to walk
I take it with no friend
For they don't understand the hurt
On which I came to depend.

For nothing changes where I go
Except inevitable seasons
And I could run here fast or slow
Working out my reasons.

There's a sunlit path I love to walk
Each step a memory
For no-one seems to know this place;
Not quite as well as me.

The fun times, when we'd laugh and smile
The Flowers danced at our feet
The times when I'd spend a while
In your arms as such a treat.

There's a sunlit path I love to walk
Down by the river side
To silently watch the wildlife here
Where otters and herons abide.

When the sun sits low in the sky
And the path turned dark and gloomy
Too many times we argued why,
And if you really knew me.

There's a sunlit path I love to walk
It's beauty is all its own
All the memories from here have passed
And from my heart been thrown.
