Promises Broken

She swore she'd never do this again,
she promised herself,
she'd never be set up to be hurt again,
she promised,
she'd never let go
of her heart again.
Well, guess what,
she lied.
She thought she was done with love,
or even the simplest fling,
but this guy is different,
he genuinely likes her,
and he understands her past,
he understands she can't
allow herself to be taken advantage of again,
he knows how to win her over
and he's not even trying,
he's being himself,
she can't believe it,
but she's falling for him
and she promised herself
she wouldn't
open herself up
to pain and sorrow.
She thought she could fight her feelings
but she's so tired
of fighting,
she wants to give in
and just let the cards fall as they may,
but she promised herself
she'd never do this again,
but guess what,
some promises are meant to be broken.
