Eternal Sleep
sitting in the passenger seat of her sister's SUV, pain in her heart, and sorrow in her soul, she longs to let it out, but now is not the time, she longs to give in to the urge, but wants to make her family proud, what could she do to get that want, it seems so far out of reach, she tries, and tries, but still can never gain their approval they wonder why she isn't "healed" or "normal" again but refused to accept any responsibility for the pain she endures granted, it isn't all them, but, maybe, just maybe, if they understood, even a little, she would be better by now. But she doesn't get what she needs and she is tired of fighting the urge She swallows a couple of pills, and then a couple more, and so the story goes, until sleep overtakes her, that eternal sleep, she has always longed for.
This poem was written after freaking out in the middle of Walmart. I was sitting in the passenger seat of my sister's SUV, and I just started writing, and let the words flow out as they would.
