| 25 May 2002 10:44 pm PST Saturday I saw Fabio walking his rottweiler on Sunset this morning. I was walking Doc and I looked up and saw this gorgeous dog. Then I looked up and am like, Hey! Fabio! Of course I didn't say that out loud. I wish I were on the same side of the street as him so Doc could growl at his dog! Alright I will admit it: I'm addicted to Trading Spaces. The only reason I started watching the show was because there was never anything good on Cartoon Network at that time (whoever decided to keep Ed, Edd, and Eddy on tv needs to be smacked). I'm not entirely sure how or when, but the next thing I know I am glued to the television watching rooms undergo (usually) great face lifts. I love how creative these designers can get. But then again, hey, they're designers. It's their jobs. I'm glad that planes have entertainment programs on board because the flight over here on Wednesday night seemed to take FOREVER. One of the programs was about the Millenium Tower, this tower thats half a mile high that they're planning to build in Hong Kong. They "need" it because they're running out of living space over there. By constructing this giant tower, they would create living/office space for nearly 60,000 people. Sounds lucrative right? Alright I can SORT OF understand the need for more space, but there are a bunch of issues I have with this tower. Number one, they need more concrete than any one country could provide, so the builders would need to dip into global supplies, disrupting the normal concrete flow. Two, they would build it in the middle of the harbor. There is no way it would NOT mess up the ecological balance in there. And three, is it really THAT necessary to be in the middle of the city? There is plenty of habital land elsewhere, right? I mean, maybe not in Siberia, but in China somewhere there's got to be some space. I just don't see why it's necessary to build an enormous structure that will definitely mess up the natural flow of resources, mess up an ecological system, and mess up the otherwise gorgeous skyline of Hong Kong. Whatever. Maybe it won't pan out... |
