| Welcome to Scarlet's Sangria. My name is Michelle, and I have been a fan of Tori Amos ever since I first heard "Silent All These Years" back in 1992. For many years, Tori was not my favorite artist. In fact, I listened to so many different artists in so many different genres that I couldn't particularly call any single performer my "favorite". But whenever I was down and I needed something to help me back up, it was always Tori's music that gave me the strength, confidence, and optimism to move on and get better. The most recent occurance of this was right around the time I heard Scarlet's Walk was being released. I was not in a very good situation, living in a hotel, working at a gas station, hating my life, and wondering what I could do to get back on track once again. My boyfriend and I got into a conversation one evening about how we've never seen most of America, and how liberating and enjoyable it would be to pack ourselves into a van, armed with a video camera, recording equipment, and, of course, a laptop, and just take a road trip across this great land and document everything: in song, in writing, in art, in whatever form our creative juices took us. And then I saw a commercial on VH1 for Tori's new album, and I had to laugh - she done went and did what we had been fantasising about! I knew right then that I had to hear Scarlet's Walk. That there was some message Tori wanted me (and anyone else who would listen) to hear. It took a few months before I could allow myself to spend the money to get the album. Over that past year, I was not able to buy anything other than food and pay rent at the hotel. But listening to Little Earthquakes, Under The Pink, and Boys For Pele repeatedly wasn't enough. My birthday was coming up fast, and I decided I owed it to myself to get a copy of Scarlet. Her message was clear instantly. I haven't been able to stop listening to it since. And things in my life have changed! My boyfriend and I now have a wonderful home in Philadelphia, I have a great job, He is pursuing a degree in Animation, and while money is still a little tight, it's okay. We are happy, and all the therapy I needed was contained in the songs of Scarlet's Walk. Because of this, I've decided to make this site, a tribute to Tori, to Scarlet, and to all the girls. I hope you enjoy it, and I would love it if you share your stories with me. |
