Welcome to historical Charleston, SC

While in Charleston, South Carolina,
be sure to saunter leisurely around Colonial Lake.
(As my little girl said, "Mama, it’s a hike around Colonial Lake!")

Colonial Lake (circa 1768) probably began as a mill pond for local sawmills
and was known as Rutledge Street Pond for many years.
In esteem of the Colonial Commons,
Colonial Lake acquired its contemporary name
although a few refer to it as The Pond to date.

A 1768 Act of the Common House of Assembly
forever set aside Colonial Lake for public use.
Between 1882 and 1887, the park was developed around Colonial Lake.

Colonial Lake not only represents Charleston history
but also the romance of Charleston.
I know this is true because
my father proposed to my mother one night at Colonial Lake.
Many couples still enjoy moonlit strolls around Colonial Lake
and perhaps on down to The Battery.

Remember your Southern Heritage and remain proud!

Wishing is good time wasted,
Still it's a habit they say;
Wishing for sweet's I've tasted,
That's all I do all day.
Maybe there's nothing in wishing,
But, speaking of wishing I'll say:

Nothing could be finer
Than to be in Carolina
In the morning.
No one could be sweeter
Than my sweetie when I meet her
In the morning.

When the morning glories,
Twine around the door,
Whispering pretty stories
I long to hear once more.

Strolling with my girlie,
Where the dew is pearly early
In the morning.
Butterflies all flutter up
And kiss each little buttercup
At dawning.

If I had Aladdin’s lamp for only a day,
I'd make a wish, and here's what I'd say
Nothing could be finer
Than to be in Carolina
In the morning.
