Welcome to the home of Grant County, WI Biographies Death of Dr. J. J. Bayse- Dr. Joseph J. BAYSE- was born Sept. 24th, 1798 in Louis County, Mo. then under the Spanish Government. Died Jan 8th 1877 aged 78 years and something over three months. Was happily converted to christianity at a camp meeting near the old Shilo School House in the State of Illinois, under the labors of Rev. Abraham AMES. Was appointed class Leader in 1814, in which he labored happily till. 1818, when he was a licensed local preacher in the M.E. and continued to preach up to the time of his last illness. Was mar-ried in 1820 to Anna Watson, in Pike County, Mo. by the Rev. Alexander McALLESTER, a travelling Deacon in the M.E church. Moved to Jacksonville, Ill. in 1824, where be remained till 1828 farming and preaching the Gospel of life. Moved to Green county, Ill. in 1829 when and where he commenced the practice of medicine, which profession he continued as long as life and health permitted. Came to Wisconsin in 1836 and settled in Grant County. Was appointed one of the commissioners of this county. Having a large family to support and educate he moved to Plattevil1e in 1840, where he could have a larger field for practice and better schooling privileges. In his Diary for 1876 he wrote, up to date I have practiced medicine 47 years preached the Gospel 58 years, and am still favored with good health and above all, my reasoning faculties. Lost my boon companion Oct. 19, 1873, who fell, in the full assurance of a home in the land of rest for the faithful. In all these weary years, I have never lost sight of the Heavenly Calling, but like Peter have followed my Master at too great a distance; yet I hope In His great love and mercy, one day to reach that happy home. Thus for many long weary years he ministered not only to the wants of suffering mankind but to lead them to the Cross of Christ until his Master said it is enough. Come up higher."
