C.L. Charity Challenge with Maria

To Pledge or Not to Pledge, that is the question?

When you see the monthly CAT Charity Challenge Pledge request email, do you find yourself asking if you should pledge or not pledge.
If so you are not alone.  I know that a lot of listers are crochet shy about pledging, I know this because each month I receive emails after the pledge sheets go out.
Some listers write to me and say they can only pledge "1" item and I say terrific, wonderful that "1" more then we had before.
Some listers write to me because they are concerned that they are not as experienced and are new to the craft, and I say no one cares.  If you have the desire and talent to pick up a hook and some yarn and create something for a person in need, than you are just as experienced as the next crocheter.
Some listers write to me and say what happens if I can't get my package out in time, will it still be accepted and used, and I say yes, our charities are on going an your items will be appreciated and put to good use.
If you find that you have thought these same things, but you really want to pledge, then I say you should go for it, give it a try.
Here are some very simple rules of thumb to follow when deciding on pledging and participating in the CAT Charity Challenge, all you have to do is:

1)  Look at the Charity for the month, see what items are needed, decide out of those items what you can crochet, what you like to crochet and what you want to crochet, always pick a pattern that you are comfortable with, there is no need to feel you have to compete with the Jones'.  Whatever you make will be used, will be loved and will make the difference to someone in need.

2)  Pick a number of items to pledge, always pledge within reason, do not set too high a goal for yourself, because crocheting and helping charity should be stress reducing not stress increasing.  If you think you can make 5 items within the time period but are concerned than pledge 3.  If you are not sure how many items you can make then pledge 1.  There are times when a lister cannot meet their pledge and there are times when a lister goes over, and you should not worry about this because, the greatest things is that you get credit for the number of items you send, not the number of items you pledge.

3)  Plan your shipping accordingly, see what the date is that the item is due, then check to see how long it will take from your house, Point A to the Sponsors house, Point B and give yourself and the post office enough time to get it there.  Another great thing is while we set a deadline for when items are due that is strictly for contest purposes.  If you are unable to get your items out before the deadline, do not worry, our charities are on going and will gladly accept them and use them when they come.

4)  This is the most important item to consider when pledging, and that is, will my pledged item make a difference in someone's life?  The answer is one word shouted out loud, that word is YES.

Also, remember that if you have any questions and concerns when it comes to the Charity Challenges, just email me.  I will be glad to help you.

May all your days be yarn filled days,
