| I would like to introduce another of our wonderful exchange coordinators to you. Her name is Roseanne Coulter. She is the coordinator for the Ornament Exchange. In fact, it is her seventh year at the helm of this group. She tells me that her Christmas tree is always very well decorated with fabulous crochet ..... and that includes the angel that sits atop the tree. The members of the ornament exchange are always terrific and enthusiastic about their ornaments. I asked Roseanne who had taught her to crochet. She tells me that she is pretty much self taught. She introduced to knitting originally by her mother and one of her teachers but decided on her own to try crocheting. She was able to pick up this skill quickly and has thoroughly enjoyed it ever since. Roseanne has done work in both thread and yarn but says that she prefers yarn to thread even though she still does some thread work every now and then. Her favorite pattern which she uses a lot is a round dish cloth. Other than that pattern she tells me that she likes variety so she tries patterns that produce different textures. These stitches include cables, lace, and basketweave, etc. Roseanne is one of the original members of CL having been here pretty much since the beginning (for 8 or so years now). She tells me that she has two favorite projects and they are a brown cable jacket she made for herself and a burgundy tunic she made for her sister in law. She says that this is so because they were the first clothing items she crocheted successfully. I asked Roseanne what advice she would give a newbie. Her response was "just dive in and don't be afraid to try a new pattern or technique and don't be afraid to ask questions. She tells me that swatches are your best friend because if you are nervous about trying a new pattern (worried about wasting yarn if it isn't done right) then trying a swatch with various yarns first lets you get comfortable with the stitch before you run out and buy a load of yarn for a new project. This year, Roseanne has signed on a treasurer for the Toronto Hookups Crochet Guild. She is a single mom to a teenage boy. They both love to decorate and redecorate their apartment. Other than crochet, her hobbies include hand and machine knitting, sewing, cross-stitch, some quilting and home decorating. Her stash consists of a BIG stack of fabrics, yarns, threads (for sewing and embroidery), patterns, books, and many many WIMs (works in mind) in all areas of needlework. She and her son have five plalyful parakeets who like to sit on her hands and even when she is trying to crochet. They love to beak box with the crochet hook. She says "in this family, I guess everyone has to get in on the act." Here is the link to her photo album so you can go and take a peek. I have and she has some absolutely wonderful work! Thanks so much Roseanne for being a great part of CL!! |
