News From Down Under
by Jacqui Simmons
Here we are at the end of our Summer and moving into Winter.  The nights are quite cool now and I've already put an extra blanket on the bed but it will soon be time for doona's, quilts, bedspreads etc.  Trees have lost their leaves and in another month or so the bulbs will be showing through.  I love this time of year.  I am a hot blooded person and feel the heat dreadfully so am always pleased when Autumn arrives.  The cooler weather doesn't deter the wild animals though and we still have the deer coming right up to our pool and eating the leaves off the frangipani tree.  I don't know which is worse ... the deer or the cockatoos!!!  My dh left a bag of kiwi fruit out on the BBQ table to ripen up and the possums got into it and ate holes in every piece!  Then the cockatoos came along in the daytime and finished it off!!!
Crochet wise, this has been a great month and I've accomplished quite a bit.  I had two 6 inch baby dolls that badly needed clothing so I crocheted them lovely christening gowns with bonnets and panties.  I have also been practicing "overlay" crochet and am very pleased with the result of my first square.  Now I have to do lots more and turn it into a bedspread!! Hmmmm, wishful thinking here.
On the 23rd of May I am off to Perth in Western Australia to be an assistant to Prudence Mapstone of Freeform crochet fame.  At the moment she is in England demonstrating her skills and doing workshops over there and then she will be at CGOA chain link in July (I think).  She is very hard to keep up with as she's always off somewhere.  I'll be able to tell you all about my trip in the next newsletter.  Meanwhile, my prayers to all that need them and my love as always.
