Truth by Li Pei Fen

The sun leaves
Together with
The clouds,
The birds,
The glee.

Stealthy is the night
That creeps out of nowhere
Swallowing the world,
Engulfing it in darkness
In sorrow.
In grief.

The eerie cry of human souls
A resonant and sonorous sound,
A call for help.
A call for love.

Left in solitude
In a corner of the room
Benumbing anything, everything
Ethereal hearts.
Ethereal emotions.

A ray of light
Gleams from somewhere
Conquering the overcast
That forever maimed the mind.
Infinite hopes.
Infinite dreams.

I tried to reach it
Only to find
That the brilliancy
Was no more.

I was late.
Too late.
Notes and Analysis

This poem was written WAY back when I was 12 years old. One of my all-time favorites. Why? Speaks so well of me. When you first read it, what do you think? I'll never know, duh... But really, this poem speaks of opportunities and chances missed. If you personally knew me, you'd agree 100% on why this is so true.

Hahaha.. I have the WORST luck in human history.

The imagery used is very simple. Duh, waht do you expect from a 12-year-old?

As much as i love this poem, i hate it as well. I dunno. I've memorized it more or less, after tens of times reading it. The following words.. oh-so-ever-clich of Li Pei Fen, are used here:

+ Ethereal
+ Infinite
+ Darkness
+ Souls
+ Heart

This is sickening. These words are a BIG no-no in poetry, as I've read once. You'll find more of these words in my other poems.. those written when I was 12/13, the peak of my writing ambition. That was my #1 passion back then. But now, I'm into performing and facing thousands of people, baby!

You can't have everything. While I was the best student in my batch in science, my math grades were so-so. When it was math's turn to be my best, my science grades lowered. So when i started performing, my writing went downhill BIGTIME.

Not that i think it ever climbed up...
