Two people were killed Saturday night in Cobb County when a sports car involved in an apparent drag race crashed into a church sign.
The driver and a passenger were killed instantly in the crash.
Cobb County firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the victims from their black Chevy Camaro. Authorities pronounced them dead at the scene.
The victims' names were unavailable at press time. But Officer Brody Staud, a Cobb police spokesman, described the victims as white males in their teens to early 20s.
The accident occurred about 8 p.m. along westbound Chastain Road, just west of I-575, Staud said.
Witnesses told police that the Camaro was drag racing with a yellow Ford Mustang when the Camaro's driver apparently lost control of the vehicle.
The car left the road, then struck a brick sign at the Community Bible Church. The car, Staud said, was extensively damaged.
Police late Saturday night were searching for the Mustang's driver for
questioning.
