Oconee teen dies in automobile accident
An Oconee County teen-ager died
Saturday night after his car veered over to the wrong side of the road and
collided with an oncoming Honda Civic, according to the Athens post of the
Georgia State Patrol.
Travis Joey Powers, 16, of 1220
Grayson Lane, Bogart, was declared dead about 10 minutes after the accident on
Mars Hill Road near Crooked Creek Road. Powers died instantly of blunt trauma to
the head and chest, according to Oconee County Coroner John
Simpson.
The youth was wearing his seat belt, but the 1990
Honda Accord he was driving had no air bag, Simpson
said.
Kevin Frankic, 22, the driver of the other car
involved in the accident, was in fair condition in the intensive care unit of
St. Mary's Hospital Sunday evening.
Powers was the son of
Joe and Lisa Powers of Bogart and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. He had
attended Oconee County High School and was enrolled at Athens Area Technical
College
