The first vote on tougher teenage driving restrictions and curfews comes on Tuesday. The Senate Public Safety Committee meets at 9 a.m. to decide on a package pushed by Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor and Sen. Phil Gingrey (R-Marietta) to require 40 hours of driver instruction for a new licensee, impose a 10 p.m to 6 a.m. nighttime driving curfew for 16-year-olds and a midnight to 6 a.m. curfew for 17-year-olds. The legislation, which could reach the Senate floor for a vote by the end of next week, also requires on-road driver's tests and makes it easier for police to revoke a teen's license for most convictions for moving violations.
