Rememberance of Things Past Script Excerpts

I need to say first, that I have not seen the CBS version of this episode, only the pax version, so some of these excerpts may have really happened in the uncut version of the episode.

This first script excerpt is in the very beginning when Lee and Amanda are in the bar, Monks, that is the hang out for federal agents.

ANGLE ON ROUND TABLE

in a corner at which sits several operatives, including Jack, Lee and Amanda.

Lee:
So, then he says the department can't reimberse me for bullets without a receipt.

Jack:
Didn't you keep your receipts?

Lee:
Well, I finally found some...Then Winslow says I'm over budget for bullets. Waste not want not.

Jack:
Or sharpen your aim.

All share a knowingly laugh.

Amanda:
Are bullets any cheaper if you buy them in bulk?

(Silence)
I know I find that when I buy beans or rice in quantity I really get quite a savings. And, of course, now that they have all those generic plain-wrap things, I...

She stops, looks around the table, realizing they're all sort of staring at her.

Lee:
I don't think they have they have...'plain-wrap' bullets.

Jack:

(Breaking the awkwardness)
How about another round of drinks?

Lee:

(pointing to each)
Cognac, 'JB' neat, vodka tonic...

Jack:
Mrs. King?

Amanda:

(to Lee)
Is there any house specialty I ought to try?

Lee:
House specialty?

Amanda:
Well, since this is sort of a spy hang-out, I just thought there'd be some special drink.

Lee:

(dryly)
You mean like a Mata Hari Mai Tai?

Jack:

(looking at drink menu)
You know, they do have a Mata Hari Mai Tai?...

Amanda:

(with a look at Lee)
I'll try that.

Jack leaves.

The rest of the scene is how it was in the episode.

Okay, this next scene is the scene where Amanda has just taken Lee home and he is trying to read. There is a little bit extra added to this scene.

***

EXT. LEE'S APARTMENT - ESTABLLISHING - NIGHT (STOCK)
ZOOM UP TO his window. The only one still lit this late.

INT. LEE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Lee is sitting in his deck chair, trying to read. CAMERA MOVES IN ON him as little sounds like DRIPPING WATER, TICKING CLOCKS, keep him edgy. He rises, crosses to the window and checks outside. Then he glances over at the front door. En route back to the deck chair, the PHONE RINGS. This really startles Lee. He picks it up, somewhat nervously.

Lee:
Hello?

Amanda: (V.O)

(cheerfully)
Are you still okay?

Lee:

(relieved)
I was. And you?

This conversation is INTERCUT WITH:

INT. KING KITCHEN - AMANDA

Amanda:
I'm fine. I'm just helping my mother through the final stages of packing. Extra dental floss, flash bulbs, chewing gum. The usual stuff. Did I wake you?

Lee:
Not really. I was just dozing off.

Amanda:
Well, I've already admitted to being a Nervous Nellie...

DOTTY has entered the kitchen and is putting some fruit in a baggie for the car ride.

Amanda:

(continuing; quickly changing the tone)
...And I'm sure your python is on the mend.

Lee:
Python?

Amanda:
Just remember to keep him inside and make sure he's never alone.

(pointedly)
Better safe than sorry, you know.

Lee:

(smiling)
I don't know too many people who'd be sorry if I wasn't safe.

Amanda:

(sweetly)
I would. 'Nite.

She hangs up.

Dotty:
Does one of your pet clients have a python?

Amanda:
Yes. And it's a bit under the weather.

Dotty:
With what?

Amanda:

(without blinking)
Bad cough. Apparently snakes are sensitive.

Dotty:
Well, I admit I'm baffled by this pet and plant job, Amanda, but if you find it gratifying, so be it. Just don't run yourself ragged. Make sure you take advantage of this quiet to relax.

Amanda:
And you be careful, too, Mother. Don't get separated from the group or let the boys off into the countryside alone.

Dotty:
Darling, nothing's going to happen... my record at home is fairly spotless, wouldn't you say? It's probably a thousand times more dangerous living right here in town.

She exits on that.

Amanda:

(to herself)
Tell me about it.

The rest of the scene plays out the same back at Lee's apartment, except for it's not the doorman who brings the package that was dropped off for Lee, it's his next door neighbor, Lydia Lowell. The conversation is exactly the same though.
