CHESAPEAKE

Updated 3/20/2017-- Steve

Alert! On March 22,2017, Chesapeake switched all public safety comms to its new 700 MHz P25 system. The system came on the air early August and had been in test mode since then, occasionally simulcasting a talk group from the Astro system. The public system talk groups are currently simulcasting over both systems until further notice. Thanks to Mike Urquhart for providing info to the new system!

In 2011, The Chesapeake system was "rebanded". If you have purchased a scanner that has preprogrammed in the unit (i.e., Pro-106/-197, etc), you will have to reprogram the control channels and set custom tables. WIN500 provides a shortcut rather than entering custom tables manually.

It might be a good idea to keep the old VHF/UHF frequencies programmed as the city has opted to keep them as backup in case the 800 system ever fails.
