Photo Album - Norsewood Mail Run

On 30 March 1997, the Scandinavian Club of Manawatu sponsored  the  re-enactment of the old mail coach run between the town of Norsewood and Ormondville Railway Station, in association with the Norsewood District & School 125th Jubilee.

Liz McGregor’s ‘Brutus Brown’ and his driver, Jo Hullah, are shown here delivering the specially printed envelopes (featuring a picture of Ormondville Railway  Station, built 1880). The station’s restored loading dock is in the foreground.

The envelopes then travelled on the ‘Bay Express’ to NZ Post, Palmerston North, for stamping and delivery.

Also pictured are Club members Rachel Silver of Palmerston North, and Ann Hill (standing) of Feilding, who participated in the event.

Funds raised from the sale of these envelopes were shared equally between Ormondville Rail Preservation Group (which is restoring the historic station and its precinct) and the Norsewood Pioneer Museum.
