The immigrant ship Celaeno

The 'ship-rigged' Celaeno, which was built in Aberdeen in 1863, weighed 702 tons and measured 173.0 x 30.2 x 18.7 feet.  It made eleven trips to New Zealand, the 1870-1 voyage being its seventh.

This picture, a watercolour, was painted by M. Seymour, the First Mate on its 1869-70 voyage. He presented to a passenger, Margaret Jane Rose, who was travelling to New Zealand to marry John Sinclair of Cheviot.
