Scandinavian Style

Candles and candle making have a long tradition in Scandinavia and are strongly associated with many of the oldest Nordic traditions and festivals.

Scandinavian candles are characterised by their simple and elegant designs, their natural pure white colour and are hand dipped.

The candles are made from paraffin with a small amount of stearin added. This balanced mixture gives a beautiful yellow flame which does not soot. Paraffin gives a brighter flame whilst stearin makes the candle burn longer and gives Scandinavian candles their whiteness. Once upon a time stearin was obtained from whales but is now made from palm nut oil.
