TASMANIA'S sole Popstar Simon Ditcham is back in town and lapping up every minute of it.

He has the love of his life Atalana Heale by his side, is enjoying his mum's home cooking and is catching up with family and friends.

He also has a stint all week on local radio station TTT.

And with the second-generation Popstars band Scandal'us set to release a new single this month, life could not be better for the heart-throb Hobart boy who has become a celebrity.

But as with any pop star, young or old, he's learning to shroud himself in mystery.

His lips are sealed on the subject of the divine Ms Heale, a 22-year-old singer-songwriter, and the new single.

Ditcham, who turned 24 last month, met the gorgeous Sydneysider while auditioning for Popstars and admits she is his "flame".

The pair are the perfect couple and constantly humour each other about their music and ambitions.

Ditcham, who is in Hobart for a guest spot on TTT's morning show all this week, says the band's new management team is doing well.

"We've been out of the public eye a bit lately but we're busy writing and we'll be launching National Youth Week at Darling Harbour this month," he said.

"We'll have a new single out at the end of April and our manager is negotiating contracts in the United States."

He describes his first overseas trip to the United Kingdom last September as "amazing".

"We did 36 shows in 42 days," Ditcham said.

"It's been very full on. It hasn't been easy . . . it's a lot of hard work."

Ditcham is yet to make a fortune from his life with Scandal'us, but like all musicians is hoping for a No. 1 hit.

The band's No. 1 hit Me Myself and I was rated 15th highest-selling single in 2001.

However, it has struggled to come up with another hit.

As for a career in radio, Ditcham is not convinced that early mornings are his cup of tea.

"I have to get up at the evil time of five o'clock and thank God no-one can see what I look like then," he said. "I don't go anywhere near the controls or buttons.

"I just talk, muck around and have fun.

"Radio has been a good opportunity but I think I've done my quota of early mornings for the next 10 years."

Despite the early starts, he has still managed to party and have fun with family and old friends.

He went to a farewell party last night for Ben Harbinson, a Hobart soccer star and fellow member of his old band Serby, who has won a contract to play soccer interstate.

"I miss my friends heaps," he said.

And while he hopes the band will shoot to international stardom, he'll always call Tasmania home.
