| POP GOES THE OUTSIDER! - TV Hits, July 2001 Simon, you're a bit of an odd one out, coming from a rock background. How are you finding being in a pop group? Simon: Loving it - although I was a bit worried at the start. Tamara: Simon's just adapted haven't you, Si? Jason: He was born a pop freak! Simon: I love pop now Tamara: It's really funny because all of us are real pop fans and we'd go, "What about this song, isn't it great?" and we'd look at Simon and he'd go "Oh, I don't know that song." Simon: They talk about all these songs and I'm getting to know them. Tamara: We tell him to sing something he knows and he sings something like Jeff Buckley. Jason: We watched the *NSYNC concert at Madison Square Garden on video the other night, and at the end Simon was like, "Man that was cool!" and we were like, "See!" Is it a shared love of pop music that makes the group work so well together? Anna: Not really. What makes the group work so well, and what will come through on the album, is that we all like different styles of music and when you put it all together, there's a great blend. Daniela: I think if you look inside each of us, we have this drive to do this. There are people who are capable of singing or dancing better than me, or playing an instrument or writing songs better than me, but they wouldn't even go to the first audition because they don't want it as bad as me. Individuality has brought us together. What weren't you expecting about being a popstar? Jason: I honestly wasn't expecting to be recognised while I was just walking down the street. You keep forgetting that millions of people around the country know who you are, and you walk in the supermarket to get toilet paper and everyone comes up to you. It's cool though, I love it! Simon: I never thought I'd be living with gorgeous chicks. What's been the hardest part so far? Tamara: Nothing! Anna: I complain when I don't get enough sleep but really, this isn't work, it's so much fun! Who wouldn't want a job like ours? Singing, learning choreography, recording singles and an album... Jason: Getting a free car, living in a penthouse...that has to be the worst bit! Tamara: The worst bit will be when we have to move away. We're like a family. I don't think we've ever actually argued. How do you cope so well with such long hours in the studio? Daniela: After a few hours in the studio, and everyone's just lounging around, we get up and have the biggest rampages. Anna: The best is when Daniela gets hyper on lollies. Daniela goes skitz! Jason: Or that Anna came out onto the balcony of our first house and a kiss to Simon's brother as he left. Anna: It was actually Daniela... Jason: And she wasn't even out there blowing him a kiss! What's the most Scandalous thing you've ever done? Tamara: On the first day of my new school I jigged (skipped school). When I did go, I got in trouble for always dressing up as a fairy. Daniela: I lost my licence as soon as I got it because I was speeding. Anna: I'm not even going to say mine because it's lame. Jason: She had detention for staying in the classroom at lunchtime because she was cold - how cute is that! Anna: It was pouring outside! Jason: When I was in year 8 I almost got expelled because I thought it would be really funny to throw eggs at the principal at the school fete. I thought it would be really funny, but it wasn't funny at all. Simon: I've got a clean slate, I think. I'm trying to work on that. What scandalous thing have you always wanted to do, but have never been daring enough to do it? Daniela: Get a tattoo. I have to decide whether I want one for my birthday. Jason already has a tattoo - he's done bungee jumping and everything. Anna: I've always wanted to skydive but I'm a bit of a chicken. Simon: Anna, yours was The Demon at Australia's Wonderland! Anna: I hate roller-coasters and these guys talked me into it. They strapped me in and I decided I wanted off. I even said I had a heart problem to try to get off. Just before the ride started, Jason turned to me and said, "This is scary Anna!" OK, you've been living together for a while now. What scandalous secrets have you uncovered about each other? We'll start with Jason Anna: He snores like you would not believe. Daniela: Sometimes he comes up to you and this odour comes from him. He farts like he's got an air vent - he call them cupcakes. And when he burns toast he screams. Anna: He's scared of burnt toast! What about Tamara? Anna: She never stops at the toll gates to pay. Daniela: And she drives in bus lanes. Simon: She always gets the best room! And she bosses us around. What's the scandal in Anna's life? Daniela: Ten minutes into her sleep she makes this noise (Daniela makes a slurping, munching sort of noise.) Once I turned around and asked her if she wanted a drink - I didn't realise she was actually sleeping. She doesn't remember any of it. Jason: Anna is a sucker for chocolate, man. She eats chocolate like it's nobody's business. She's pretty good at the cupcakes too! Anna: I just do them to get you back! What's Daniela really like? Jason: She does the worst thing that girls can do when they live with guys - she comes into out bathroom. She sets up all her little facial scrubs and eye creams in the corner... Daniela: You've got a bigger bathroom, be thankful! The other girls take hours in the bathroom and all I do is put on eye cream. Simon: Her stuff was like a fungus - these things just started growing! OK, guys, give us the deal on Simon... Anna: I've got to say this, Simon is kooky! Jason: He is, he's a weird guy. I'm famous for doing cupcakes but when it comes to quality and not quantity, he's the man! Daniela: They're bigger than cupcakes. They're muffins! Anna: He drives on the wrong side of the road too. Daniela: He comes from Tasmania and they must have really wide roads, cause' Simon nearly scrapes the car against the other cars when he drives! What scandals went on behind the scenes that we didn't see on the show? Tamara: Nothing really. Anna: The producers were pretty good at putting all the crappy bits in. Jason: The part where (judges) Jack Howard and Jackie O were fighting over me... Daniela: Until they both found out he was gay (they both crack up). Simon: There weren't any problems between any of us, except with the Swedish twins 'cause they're tall, blond, blue-eyed and good looking. Jason: Yeah, and we get, "You're so cute, you're so easy to talk to!" |

Just fire away undercover_ros: I just want you all to know that Simon is typing for himself - way to go Simon!!!!! pumpkingirl_4u: hey I LOVE U GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:) bomberchic05: Simon, do u surf the net at all when you have time? scandal_us: When I have the time to get to the net, I normally take care of the emailing and then the other times I just surf haphazardly. emmy222au: Do you keep in touch with your family's much now? scandal_us: I stay in touch with the family and also friends as much as possible, mainly through the Internet actually. chickpea707: What was the Moulin Rouge opening like? scandal_us: We had the most fun, getting to perform and seeing Nicole but the best part for me was nearly getting to meet Buffy! cute_opinionated_mental_chick: what's been your weirdest fan encounter yet? scandal_us: On behalf of the group, there have been some people at the instores who take photos and then the next thing you know they are back getting them signed an hour later, a little weird in my book. cassie_18au: scandal'us rulez orians_belt: how hard was it for you mentally and physically to make it to the final round, the band? scandal_us: I had a super tough time getting through the auditions, not being a dancer and being surrounded by the talent, and in the end getting kicked out, so yes, it was mighty hard to say the least. cute_opinionated_mental_chick: Simon, do u still feel like the odd one out of the group? scandal_us: I don't feel the odd one out as much now. I think that we each are very different and bring something special to the group. Do you think that I'm the odd one out? lotsachat2000: What do you find the hardest about being famous? scandal_us: Probably the misconception that we party all the time. We also work at least 23 days a week at the moment! scandalusshrine: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? scandal_us: Hopefully the group isn't sick of me and kicked me out and if not, I hope we are touring, writing, and having as much of a blast as we are at the moment. coal_au2002: u guys rock and i love u all scandalusshrine: Which song represents you the most in one of your songs on Startin' Somethin' scandal_us: I think we all get to shine throughout the album but personally, probably Startin' Somethin' is where I am most noticeable. scandal_us: If you guys are getting bored with me being the only one chatting, it is because Jason let something smelly off in the back of the van, so I came in another car. They on the other hand went the wrong way!!! seanp7: How do you respond to people calling Scandal'us "manufactured". Do you partly agree with this? scandal_us: The Monkees and the Sex Pistols are good examples of "manufactured" bands through history, they were huge. Also a lot of performers in the arts, like theatre, go through auditions to get work. Simon: I used to play too much sport, hockey and tennis. Hot 30 chat Transcript On 8th April 2001, Jason and Anna of Scandal'us talked with fans on the Hot 30 Countdown Lucy: Hi Scandal'us! What did it feel like at your first live performance, last night, in front of all those fans? Jason: We felt on top of the world, we're having so much fun, we couldn't even remember if we made any mistakes or not. Anna: I think we're still on a high from last night! Jackie O: Were there any mistakes last night that you noticed? Anna: Uh, no. The only thing that happened was the CD jumped a little bit at the end but we covered that up OK I think. Sam: Hello everybody! What kind of image do you guys as a group do you want to portray? Jason: We really want to be ourselves, that's the main thing. We want to be positive, we want to keep fit, we're really into healthy living and things like that. But really, we really want to be ourselves and be regular Australian people that are following a dream, really. So trying to be an inspiration is a hard thing sometimes but we love doing it, so far. Emily: Hi everyone. Why'd you guys chose music for a career, why not something else? Anna: I think mainly because, I mean I've been doing music all my life - since I was about five years old and its always what I've wanted to do all my life so I think all of us have been working towards this but now that we're finally here, it's just like a dream come true. So it's like any profession really. I mean some people dream of being a hair-dresser, some people dream of being a doctor, we just dreamed of being singers. Nadia: When did it really hit home that you guys were actually popstars? Jason: Last night! Anna: Most definitely and I still think we're still punching ourselves in the morning, like, trying to reality check kinda thing! Jason: Yeah. Kyle: When you got out of the car were you blown totally away? Anna: Oh yeah - for sure. I mean we kinda got the same treatment at Crocodile Dundee Premiere, but it was a whole other atmosphere, because everyone was there to see us, you know? so... unbelievable! Jill: What was the most nerve racking part of the auditions? Jason: (laughs) Anna: Oh... everything! Jason: Every single day when we were sitting in that bloody room and waiting for these guys to make up their minds and everyone kept coming out and going "I made it","I didn't make it". |
