| History of Name: MC DERMOTT (Mac Diarmada): An important Connacht sept but the Monaghan family may be indigenous. They may descend from a Dermot MacMahon or some other Dermot. We do not know of any mass migration from the West. In any event, Melaughlen McDermody claimed Tannagh on 16 April 1633. The McDermotts are the 66th family with 24N, 9W, 13C and 19S. Annies, Corraskea, and Tullyhumphry are located on the Fermanagh (Northern Ireland) and Monaghan (Republic of Ireland) county lines. While driving around looking for churches and cemeteries in 1991 (having one of the most delightly days of my life), I took this photo of one of the villages from which McDermotts emigrated (unfortunately I can't remember which of the three villages it is except that it is in the Currin Parish): |
