| The Mock Draft | ||||||||||
| First of all, let me tell you something about mock draft. Some say that mock drafts have no value at all. That is not true. Im not saying Im going to predict the outcome of the draft and Im not going to say that if the draft doesnt go this way the teams dont know what they do. People who say that are clearly out of their minds. I make this mock draft to let people show who I think will go where in the draft. If I have Woods picked with the tenth pick then Im not saying he will be picked with the tenth pick but Im saying that I think he has the qualities to be drafted around the tenth pick. This way I let people know my opinion about which player is good enough to be picked at which point. It is also a way to let people know what I think what which team needs. So this is just my opinion about how good a certain player is and thats why I do this. You can never predict a draft. Some teams are looking for a player you didnt expect and some players will slip in the draft because of it. So I dont make this because I think the draft should go like this but just to give you my opinion on how good a player exactly is. And you will see how good I think a player is by his position in the draft. But beware! This time I also looked a bit at the general opinion which causes Clancy to fall out of the draft for example and although Im not a big fan of Sampson and Haislip I think that some teams in the first round will be glad to have them. But I will stop talking and give you the mock draft: | ||||||||||
| Houston Rockets: Yao Ming, center The Rockets will choose for this long center from China. There has been a lot of hype and I dont think he will live up to it, nobody can, but if they dont draft him they could hit themselves in the head a couple of years from now. He has impressed in his workout and Houston will not let him slip. Do you know what happened last time the Rockets drafted a foreign center with the number one pick? They became one of the elite teams in the NBA because of it. |

| Chigaco Bulls: Jay Williams, point guard Everyone says that Williams is going to be a franchise player. Chicago has fallen in love with this young and quick point guard who has to be the leader of a team loaded with young talents. If the Rockets dont pick him with the first pick then there is no way the Bulls will not draft him. |
| Golden State Warriors: Mike Dunleavy Jr., Small Forward Have you been reading the papers lately? Mike Dunleavy has been hyped up all the way to the third pick and his father might join him if the Warriors take him. But the Warriors will not only pick him because of that but also because he has a great understanding of the game. He also has a great shot and he often shows that when the game is on the line. He has the fundamentels and the intelligence to become a great player. |

| Memphis Grizzlies: Drew Gooden, power forward West will not let this gem slip through his hands. He is an athletic power forward and could help the Grizzlies in his rookie season. He is strong and got a great offensive game. The only thing that stands between a good and a great player is that he needs to bulk up. But the Grizzlies will not let the best power forward in the draft slip just because they already have someone on the PF spot. He is too good for that. |

| Denver Nuggets: Dajuan Wagner, point guard/shooting guard Tim Hardaway is running the point in Denver but he isnt the player he used to be. Wagner could help him out. Wagner, who can play both guard positions, is a very explosive player and will give the team that drafts him some instant offensive power. He has great ball-handling skills and the Nuggets will not let him get past them. |

| Cleveland Caveliers: Caron Butler, small forward Some people doubt that Dunleavy really is that much better than Caron Butler. A competitive small forward is just what the Caveliers need. Has a nice shot from outside but he is also a very physical player. The Cavs will be pleased to draft him if he is available. |
| New York Knicks: Curtis Borchardt, center The Knicks want a center? They can get a center. He is an excellent shot blocker and rebounder, which is just what the Knicks needed, and has a good range on his shot, especially for a center. A nice soft touch. He is also a good decision maker but what could keep the Knicks from drafting him is that he is injury prone. But I dont think the Knicks will let that stop them as they still need size and Borchardt will give them size and a lot more. |

| Los Angeles Clippers: Nickoloz Tskitishvili, small forward If he is there the Clippers will not hesitate to take them. He has been compared to Dirk Nowitzki and with good reason. The 18-year-old small forward from Georgia is a good rebounder, a good shooter and 6-11. He has a great offensive touch and the Clippers will not hesitate to pick him. |

| Phoenix Suns: Maybyner Hilario, power forward A great power forward. The 19-year-old Brazilian will be a perfect fit for the Suns, if he is able to come over. He has a great shot and he is a very good passer for a big man. He has a great understanding of the game and plays very smart. The Suns will not let him slip any further. |
| Miami Heat: Qyntel Woods, shooting guard/small forward Slip Slidin Away. Woods, who can play shooting guard and small forward, has seen himself drop all the way to the Heat who could use a small forward/shooting guard with Woods skills. He is an athletic player with a good shot and has frequently been compared to Tracy McGrady. If he doesnt get picked higher, the Knicks and Clippers could be interested, then the Heat will be thrilled to have him. |

| Washington Wizards: Jared Jeffries, small forward A big small forward who can do it all. He can shoot, pass and has great ball-handling skills. He has a great understanding of the game and although he sometimes lacks passion he will be a very good fit for the Washington Wizards. With their starting small forward, Michael Jordan, getting older they might want Jeffries to be their future small forward. And with Jordan probably hanging around for one more year Jeffries will learn a lot. |

| Los Angeles Clippers: Chris Wilcox, power forward I know they have Elton Brand but you just dont let Chris Wilcox slip any further. He has great athleticism for a big man and he is a good shot blocker. He has a soft touch around the basket and a power forward combo of Wilcox and Brand will scare the league. His medium range shot is not all that but the Clippers will not let him slip any farther as he already has done in this mock draft. |

| Milwaukee Bucks: Amare Stoudamire, power forward A young player who comes straight out of high-school. A very physical player and he will always try to find a way to the basket to dunk it in, as that seems to be his favourite hobby. Although he still needs to learn a lot his potential makes sure that the Bucks will take a chance on him. Has not only a strong body but also a strong mind. He has been through some rough times and that made him a very strong person. Stoudamire will not get past the Bucks as they still need someone with his talent. |

Indiana Pacers: Kareem Rush, shooting guard With Miller nearing the end of his career it is time to draft an incredible shooter who can learn from the Mr. Clutch of the past years. He not only shoots the ball incredibly well from three-point range but he also makes smart decisions. Not an incredible athlete but he has an advanced offensive game. He needs to improve his ball-handling but the Pacers will not let him go. |
| Houston Rockets: Bostjan Nachbar, small forward Another small forward from Europe. He has a very nice shot and great understanding of the game. Has good ball-handling skills and will help the Rockets from day one as he was strengthened by playing in Europe. The Rockets have always been a dangerous team and if it wasnt for injuries they would have challenged the Sonics and Jazz for a play-off spot and with Ming and Nachbar who both will probably be ready to contribute in their first years the Rockets will be frightening. Nachbar would be a great pick for the Rockets. |

| Philadelphia 76ers: Melvin Ely, power forward Very good offensive player with a nearly unstoppable hookshot. I have talked about him in my draft reports and this guy will probably not get past the 76ers who have a lack of young big players. |
![]() |
Charlotte Hornets: Marcus Haislip, power forward The Hornets will have a tough choice to make if Haislip is still here. Jiri Welsch could also be a possibility but the Hornets will probably choose for the young and big Haislip. He is still very raw but he does everything to improve himself and he is a workout junkie. But he looks lost sometimes and it may take some time to develop him into a good player. |
| Orlando Magic: Dan Dickau, point guard Darrell Armstrong is not getting any younger and they will have the choice of Williams and Dickau. But Dickau has had some very good workouts and that is why the Magic will probably take Dickau over Williams. Dickau is a good scorer and an excellent shooter and he will add some instant offense. He is a bulldog on the defensive end and although some doubt he is able to run an NBA team I think he will do that just fine. |
![]() |
| Utah Jazz: Jiri Welsch, point guard/shooting guard If he is there, the Jazz will not hesitate to pick him. He has made a good impression in the workouts he has done and is a very good defensive player who has played in Europe and is probably ready to contribute right away. He is a good shooter from medium range and will probably have no problems with the three-point arc. He doesnt have any contract issues although the rumors go that he will stay in Europe for another year and signed with a very good team in Europe. The Jazz will probably want the combo guard right away as they still need someone like Welsch on their roster. |

| Toronto Raptors: Frank Williams, point guard A real leader. He is a very competitive player and will try anything to help his team. He hits a very low percentage of his shots but his leadership skills and ball-handling skills will make the Raptors draft him. He is also a very good defender and a perfect fit for the only team left in Canada. |
![]() |
| Portland Trailblazers: Dan Gadzuric, center Gadzuric has made some good impressions in his workouts and although he still needs to learn a lot he is willing to learn and he already has a good game. He has a very athletic big body who can make things happen. The Trailblazers want some height and Gadzuric is the best big man still around. |
![]() |
| Phoenix Suns: Roger Mason Jr., point guard/shooting guard A talented combo guard who has great ball handling skills. He has a good jumpshot and hits almost every free throw he gets. He also has good court vision and he is a good passer but lacks athleticism and doesnt really stand out in any category. |
![]() |
Detroit Pistons: Luis Scola, power forward Scola has a big body and is probably NBA ready as he has played in Argentina. He is a real power forward and his passing ability is very good for a big man. Has good vision and a nice offensive low post game. He still needs to work on his defence but the Pistons will be pleased to find him and his strong body still available. |
![]() |
| New Jersey Nets: Smush Parker, point guard The Nets still need a good back-up point guard and Smush Parker could be the one that will avoid the second round. Parker and Logan are both very close to the first round but Parkers size gives him an advantage. He has a great shot and is a tough little player, learning the game on the NY playgrounds. He is a good passer and has great ball-handling skills. |
![]() |
Denver Nuggets: Jamal Sampson, center Sampson is an athletic center who is still in his freshman year. Although he still has a lot to learn he has great potential. With the Nuggets already taking Wagner with the fifth pick it is now time for some size and with a bit of work Sampson could end up to be the steal of the draft after 5 years of hard work. |
| San Antonio Spurs: Casey Jacobsen, shooting guard The Spurs still need a shooter for the future as Steve Smith isnt exactly young. Jacobsen has a great shot but can also go inside. He is also a very good passer and a good ball-handler. The Jazz have shown interest in him and the Jazz fans, including me, think about Jeff Hornacek when they read about how he plays. He would be a good fit in San Antonio and the Spurs will probably draft either him or Juan Dixon but Jacobsen seems to be a better and smarter player. |

L.A. Lakers: TayShaun Prince, small forward His game reminds me of Donyell Marshall. Prince, a small forward from Kentucky, has long arms and good athleticism. And, maybe even more important for the Lakers, he has a good shot from outside. Is still improving. Prince lacks some quickness and speed but the Lakers will not let him go. |

| Sacramento Kings: Jason Jennings, center The Chicago camp did his stock no good but he is still a reasonable center. He has a good touch around the basket and a nice back-to-the-basket game. His rebounding should be better but he is a strong defender and a surprisingly good free throw shooter. |
