Nickname:L.K.J. (Lord Katsuhiko Jinnai)
Age: 19
Location: Originally from Sunnyvale. Living in Las Vegas soon!
A1) It is something that has not been done by many anime fans. You've got the Cosplayer Crews, Those that make Fan Made Manga, Fan Made Anime Music Videos, Fan Dub Parodies, Fanfics and Lemon Fanfics, Hentai Manga, etc. Fan made remixes haven't evolved into a stable part of the Fandom scene. We have been left in the Misc. section of Anipike!
I've seen parties (oh, okay raves!) and I've seen the people that go to them. Most of them are dressed up sorta like anime characters. some wear anime style shirts. Flyers and promotional cds have pictures of anime all over it. Interesting trend since it is underground music. Why not merge both worlds together? Thats where I come in.
Q2)How did it all started out?
A2) 1995 was the year in which my life changed. With my 386 computer, I made my first remix. It was from the J-pop group, "TRF". Oh God, how it sucked! 8-bit Mono sound, (Gameboy sounded better!) I was like "Yahoo!" when I first made it! But everyone was like "What the *&%*?!"
In 1996-97, I started messing around with various programs on the PC. My first DJ name was D.J. Anime ( short for "Drawing Japanese Anime"). I got flamed for it many times. It wasn't an original name to begin with. My old page on MP3.com is still there! Just put "DJ Anime" on the search. I don't update it anymore.
So, it's about 1999 and I let Al Flores (DJ Socket of SNM Productions) listen to my stuff. I was an amateur at the time. The Bass was distorted, all the samples were out of sync and the volume was wack. it was just plain bad.(I still have my first cd with me!)
I did'nt give up. After months of practice and timing, I finally learned how to master audio recording. After visiting Japan (Changed me forever ^^) I dumped the "DJ Anime" name and changed it to: Lord Katsuhiko Jinnai (a character from El-Hazard). I chose this name because:
1: Nobody would ever name themself that!
2: In the anime, Jinnai calls his work "Pure Evil Genius". I kinda felt like that when I made my first REAL high quality remix.
3: my favorite character from El-Hazard. He's sooo funny!
July 2000 was my first break. I bought a new Computer and I had a little dough left over so I bought this very cheap Computer program. What do ya know?! This tiny program can make jaw-dropping remixes in only a few hours!! (Sorry guys. It's my secret. I won't tell you the program.^_^)
Hamasaki Ayumi's "Fly High" was my first remix on the new computer program (you can listen to it on my Live365 page!)
Ever since that day, I made remix after remix. It was sooo good, I bought myself a DJ set so that I can play it in front of my friends. It's only a cd dj set (I wish I can record Vinyl!!) My first DJ mix was made in June 2001. I call my style of music "J-Core" (Japanese Hardcore). Paying tribute to Anime and Underground Hardcore music.
The songs are mostly about 170 BPM (Similar to Eurobeat but a bit faster!).Almost all of my music is remixed in "Old Skool Hardcore/Happy Hardcore" style.
I do remix in outher syles such as Freestyle, House, Trance and Jungle/Drum N' Bass! And even Gabber (very rare!).
I remix Anime, Jpop, Jrock (yes!),JRnB, Jtechno, JRave, JHip-Hop Vigeogame music, and Some English songs! (Thats a whole 'lotta J's!)
Q3)Who is your role model?
A3) 1:
TRF. They were the first J-pop group that got me into Japanese Music.
2:
DJ Socket. The first anime remixer. He taught me how to improve on my remixes. He is the master of remixing Freestyle anime remixes!
3:
European Underground Music. I couldn't believe that Undergound Music was more than 15 years old and very advanced for its time! While I was listening to Mainstream Commercial Pop music in 1996, they were innovating Undergound Raves in the U.K.!
Q4)Was this a part of your dream to do this?
A4) I wanted to be an anime style artist at first. I can draw pretty good but I lack in the Photoshop skills. Music was my second interest and now it may be my first.
Q5)Did someone encourage you to be an anime DJ? If so, give more info.
A5) My brother was interested in what I've done. It was his Idea for me to continue to remix and to innovate my remixing style. I'm the only one in my immediate family who is left-handed!?
Q6)Anything you would like the people out there to know?
A6)I am just as much of a fan of anime as you are. I do not make any money off my remixes! Some anime DJ's Do. I don't. It's free because, I love anime and I know you do too!
(Warning: This may sound a little harsh, but it is the truth.)
Another thing is that, I didn't make kick @$$ remixes from the start. When I made my first remix, it sucked! I've paid my dues and struggled like everyone else in this hobby.
I've been in the remixing game for 6 years. It's pure hell but for the anime fans, it was worth every second.
So, if you hate the way I remix, I don't care. >_< Try to remix your own music and tell me if you're any good. The technology is there. Figure it out. I did.
One more thing - This is FAN-MADE music! It will NEVER be Perfect!
Peace.
