2o MORE Questions with Felissa Rose

Looking back, this has been some 2 years for the cult of SLEEPAWAY CAMP. With the re-release, 75% of the cast and crew have been unearthed and a historical reunion. One can't ask for more. So I thought it would be fitting to do a follow up interview with Angela herself, Felissa Rose.

1) What was the SLEEPAWAY CAMP reunion like for you (reuniting with your co-stars, meeting fans, posing for pictures, the whole deal)?
Incredibly exciting and surreal. It felt wonderful to get the chance to relive the experience as an adult. Everyone was so friendly and genuinely interested in SC, I felt very grateful.

2) Were they any *flashbacks* during the reunion about your times with SLEEPAWAY CAMP circa 1982?
Perhaps walking around with Johnny brought back feelings of being on the set...and when we hung out with Robert it brought back a flood of memories, all the good times we had goofing around on the set.

3) I know you'll be in RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP. What are your thoughts about working with your original co-stars again, as adults?
Well, I've had the pleasure so far of working a little bit on behind the scenes production stuff and it's been a blast. I'm learning a lot about what goes into making a film and I'm very content doing this work. A number of the cast members are also working on the other side of the camera and we're thrilled to be reunited. We're very much like a family.

4) Now that you've seen the sequels (Unhappy Campers & Teenage Wasteland), what are your thoughts on them? I think you would have been fantastic as Angela for the sequels. She was much more upbeat with a twisted sense of humor. I think you could have really played that out well, her whole attitude change.
It was cool to see a different spin on the story. I really enjoyed Pamela Springsteen and I think Angela really showed how messed up she was with that dark humor and cynical way about her. It would have been fun to play her like that.

5) This year has been a whirlwind for the cult of SLEEPAWAY CAMP. It must be pretty trippy. How has it been, sort of reliving it all as an adult?
It really is trippy. I think I'm just very grateful for all of this....very happy.

6) (Put yourself in character for this question) Angela, how does it feel being so popular as opposed to the days of being an outcast?
Just trying to get rid of all the bad, I'm glad people see it my way. It's carma, the bad get what they deseve and here I am.....

7) Another retro question: How is it for you watching the film now after such an incredible year with the revival of SLEEPAWAY CAMP?
I take notice of certain things now that I hadn't in years.

8) What's the most frequently asked question you get from fans?
Will I be in Return....

9) Back in 1998, I used to sit in my bedroom and fantasize about finding the cast and crew of SLEEPAWAY CAMP. Even before I created the website, I had written song lyrics about Angela and was going to create a fanzine based on the film. I was watching the film every night, sometimes twice a night. I really began to develop an obsession (thank Heavens the worst is over). When you hear fans talk about things like that, does it freak you out, knowing the impact SLEEPAWAY CAMP has had on people?
It doesn't freak me out at all. If we didn't allow things in life to affect us we'd be mere shells, that's exactly what Robert wanted to do with this film, touch the nerves. It's cool for me to hear things like that because it speaks to all the hard work we put into it. Thank you.

10)One of the polls on the website I have for you is "Do you think Felissa Rose would be good in a television series". I think you would be good in a comedy series because you seem to have a good sense of humor, and I believe you could make a sitcom work (I hate sitcoms!). Have you ever thought of doing television?
I'd love to do a sitcom. It's funny because when I saw that on your site I really connected with it, that's been a goal of mine. I haven't had the opportunity to do a sitcom but hopefully in the future I will. Comedy is what I love and I think I could make it work. We'll see....

11) The cast of SLEEPAWAY CAMP really comes off as an intimate family. Do you see yourself attending future reunions and get-togethers with the cast now that you all know how to contact each other?
Definitely. We've had the opportunity to see each other since the reunion and hopefully more in the near future.

12) Any future plans to work with the cast on projects not related to SLEEPAWAY CAMP?
Hmmm, I hope so. Perhaps we'll all look out for one another and if we're working on something that seems right for someone else we'll pull them in. I've spoken about future things with a couple of people, but that's far away.

13) More trippiness: If SLEEPAWAY CAMP were ever made into a musical, how do you think you would play Angela?
Probably like Jekyl and Hyde. Very dark and mysterious with a certain schizo element when those silly songs come up. As soon as Angela would break into song she'd probably be more like Pam Springsteens' character.

14) Speaking of Angela.. Ignoring the previous sequels, how would you play her now, 19 years later (this is a general question, not a reference to RTSC. Because so much time has passed, it would be curious to know how you would portray Angela as an adult, after all (s)he has been through)?
I would expect her to be completely guarded and angry. I think anyone who would've endured all that craziness would be pretty mental as an adult....just my opinion.

15) I know fans ask you to quote lines from SLEEPAWAY CAMP. What is the most requested dialogue you get asked to do?
The first word i say "goodnight", and "meet me at the waterfront after the social" which I said at the fango convention.

16) I always thought it would be really surreal (and awesome as hell) for you, Jonathan Tiersten and Desiree Gould to act out the scenes you had in SLEEPAWAY CAMP, only now as adults. I thought it would be a cool idea for a SLEEPAWAY CAMP short or promo thing. How was the vibe between you 3 when you met at the convention.. Did you do any scene reinactments before or while you were on stage?
The vibe amongst the three of us was extraordinary, it felt like 18 years ago, truly. Jeff Hayes had suggested we do the first scene with Aunt Martha when we're going to camp but time was a factor and I wasn't sure how it would go over....it was 1982 when we last spoke those words. I think it's a great idea but maybe at another reunion.

17) Do you ever find yourself tapping into Angela and nonchalantly quoting the dialogue you had in SLEEPAWAY CAMP (example: a friend comes up behind you and puts their hands over your eyes asking you to guess who they are and you blurt out, "Burt Reynolds!")?
I haven't said any of the words, but if I'm angry I'll make that staring face and feel like her again.

18) Put yourself back in 1982: if you weren't cast as Angela, what character would you have wanted to play, and why?
Ricky. I thik he was so cool and had great dialogue.

19) Was there any inspiration for the character of Angela and.. Were there any similarities between you and Angela?
Sure, I think there were similarities. There wasn't anyone who inspired me. I think for any actor there are similarities because they come from you. I have a shy side and a side that wants people to act decent....only Angela got to act on that revenge.

20) In the last interview, I asked you to describe yourself in one word. This time I want you to describe Angela in one word.
mysterious
